Whole school project looking at the longest reigning monarch To celebrate Great Britain s history and to learn about the monarchy

To encourage an inclusive approach to all e-safety education November Road Safety Week Raising awareness of road safety and looking at how we can help keep each other safe. November St. Andrew's Day To understand the importance of St. Andrew's day to people living in Scotland.

7 December Hanukah SMSC Calendar To raise awareness of Judaism and the importance of Hanukah to Jews. Opportunity to compare to own beliefs. December Christmas Whole school take part in Christmas celebrations: Nativity plays; end of term Mass; visit to the Pantomime, parties etc. To understand the importance of Advent and Christmas To celebrate the true meaning of the Christian festival. February 14th Valentine s Day To understand why people in Britain celebrate Valentine's Day.

8 February 8th February 9th and 10th February Chinese New Year SMSC Calendar Shrove Tuesday/Ash Wednesday and Lent Languages Day To understand how Chinese people celebrate their New Year. Pupils to understand that Easter is an important event within the calendar of Christianity. To encourage children to maintain their knowledge of their mother language. To have improved awareness of the different languages spoken throughout the world. To promote linguistic and cultural diversity. February Shakespeare Week To learn about important figures from British history. February - March Fairtrade Fortnight To encourage children to become responsible citizens. To understand how Fairtrade can make a significant difference to farmers' and

9 workers' lives. To be aware that retailers do treat their workers fairly. March 2014 March 23rd Commonwealth Day Sports Relief To understand that the Commonwealth is a family of 53 nations, spread over every continent and ocean in the world. Although the people of the Commonwealth and different in many ways, they work together by sharing ideas and experiences, skills and knowledge. To understand that there are people in the UK and Africa, as well as other parts of the world who live in poverty. To understand how we can help disadvantaged people through fundraising. March 27 th Easter Sunday To understand the true meaning of Easter. To understand how Christians

10 celebrate Easter. April 21st April 23rd May 1st The Queen's Birthday St George's Day May Day Children understand why birthdays are celebrated. Children understand that Britain has a Monarchy and that the Queen is Head of State. Children celebrate English heritage and learn about the story of St. George and the Dragon. Children know that St. George is the Patron Saint of England. Children understand about the traditional English May Day celebrations which include Morris dancing, crowning a May Queen and dancing around a Maypole.

11 May May June Christian Aid Week Diversity Day Healthy Eating Week SMSC Calendar Children understand Christian Aid is a charity, which helps people in need and shows the community what good the church is doing in the world. To raise awareness about the importance of intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion. To build a community of individuals committed to support diversity with real and every day-life gestures. To combat stereotypes to improve understanding and cooperation among people from different cultures. Children understand that eating healthy has a positive impact on their well-being. Children are encouraged to try new foods and make the right choices.

12 June June Child Safety Week Oxfam Water Week SMSC Calendar Children have a greater awareness of potential dangers in and around the home. To learn about the causes and symptoms of water vulnerability. Children to discuss what can be done to overcome water vulnerability.
