Aquilia Fertility Fertility is our Passion. We love to help and support couples, overcome the effects of subfertility, to achieve their dreams and have the family they long for. Lianne Aquilina MSc BSc Hons MBAcC Dip AyT A traditional acupuncturist, Lianne specialises in applied Classical Chinese Philosophy as the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) reproductive health. She believes in the importance of developing the therapeutic relationship in order to positively support patient experience of subfertility and their assisted reproductive medicine treatments. At Aquilia Fertility we specialise in integrating compleme ntary medicine in response to the contemporary health care requirements of subfertile patients. Lianne Aquilina is coauthor of the clinical textbook "Acupuncture for IVF and Assisted Reproduction: An integrated approach to treatment management." The textbook is an international bestseller. Expertise and Outcome Traditional Chinese Diagnosis and Treatment. We are highly qualified and experienced. This means we know exactly how and when to utilise fertility acupuncture to support you. Chinese Wisdoms, Research and Trends in Clinical Practice. We implement timely expert acupuncture treatment based upon traditional Chinese medicine perspectives, we combine this with the latest evidence base and trends in reproductive medicine to optimise your chances of conceiving. 1 2
Lianne Aquilina MSc Research BSc Hons Chinese Medical Acupuncture A Different Approach. Traditional Chinese Medicine has a Unique Model of Health and Fertility. Regulating the Menstrual Cycle is one approach to boosting fertility. Menstruation represents the functioning of Blood and Qi, Yin and Yang. We ask a range of questions to identify menstrual imbalances some of which include: 3 Cycle regularity, whether the cycle is early or delayed The colour of menstruation, whether menses is bright red or dark red The amount of menses, whether her periods are heavy or light The consistency of the menstrual flow such as the presence of clots in menstruation and whether these appear big or small 4
Lianne Aquilina MSc BSc Hons MBAcC Emotion In traditional Chinese medicine an important consideration and component of health and fertility is emotion. For example strong feelings of frustration, anger or sadness can be a pathological sign. Feeling frustrated and irritable can highlight a blockage of Qi. Feelings of sadness can suggest a deficiency of Qi and Blood. Often subfertile women experience a range of intense emotions as a consequence of infertility. Acupuncture treatment rebalances mind, body and emotional obstacles to wellbeing. Male Fertility Male fertility represents the functioning of Qi, Yin and Yang. Male factor is a common cause of subfertility in couples. We aim to improve sperm parameters, and overall fertility potential. 5 6
Lianne Aquilina MSc BSc Hon MBAcC IVF Fertility Planner An In tegrated Approach to Management. Traditional Chinese Medicine 2 Weeks Wait Transfer Integrated Care Preparation Aquilia Fertility Support is provided to our patients in preparation for and during Invitro fertilisation (IVF/ICSI) at particular stages of their treatment such as during: Down regulation Ovarian stimulation Embryo or blastocyst transfer The two-week wait We monitor, treat and support our patie nts by providing a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and by incorporating preventive practice. 8 Days Post Egg Collection POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST Day 2 Day 3 Day 5 Down Regulation Ovarian Stimulation Egg Collection Acupuncture Management Lifestyle & Dietary Advice ZONE 1 ZONE 2 ZONE 3 ZONE 4 ZONE 5 Acupuncture for IVF: An Integrated Approach to Management. TCM Consultation Fertility Review Plan of Action 7 8
Lianne Aquilina MSc BSc Hons Fertility Acupuncturist An Opportunistic Window During the Two-Week Wait a Chinese pulse assessment highlights the presence of any issues that may occur during the time of implantation. This is particularly useful for patients with a history of failed IVF. According to Chinese medicine, factors such as a Blockage, Deficiency of Qi and Blood, Yin or Yang, Cold or Dampness may prevent conception from occurring. A individualised diagnosis and treatment identifies, corrects or reduces any new or existing imbalances to ensure a healthier physiological maternal and embryonic environment. Trying Again Sadly many patients may already have a history of one or more failed IVF cycles before approaching us for help. In these circumstances we review their IVF history and in specific cases make recommendations in conjunction with their consultant to optimise the chances of IVF success. When you seek our help you are adding acupuncture treatment and management together with the orthodox treatment and management of reproduction Conception and Pregnancy It is what our patients want help with. To find out why, and to learn more about our approach to acupuncture in fertility and IVF please feel free to give us a call in confidence on
