Differences in the population dynamics of P. xylostella between 2009 and 2010 were due to different weather conditions in these years. In 2009P. xylostella first appeared on April 1 st two clear peaks of abundance occurred in late April and late Mayrespectively and there was no clear peak of abundance in the fall. The 1 st generation eggs were laid on May 8 th and the 1 st generation pupae were found on May 18 th. The total quantity of eggs and larvae peaked on May 13 th and September 1 st and on May 23 th and September 16 th respectively. In 2010P. xylostella first appeared on March 15 th and three different peaks of abundance occurred in early Aprillate May to early June and mid - October. 1 st generation eggs were laid on May 26 th and 1 st generation pupae were found on June 5 th. The total quantity of eggs and larvae peaked on May 15 th and September 25 th and June 15 th and October 10 th respectively. Numbers of P. xylostella on vegetables were higher than on weeds in 2009 and Contact toxicities of the 11 insecticides were tested using the leaf dipping bioassay method. The results indicate that Spinosad was the most toxic with * lipingzh2006@ 126. com
