Background: Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare inborn error of the metabolism of the amino acid phenylalanine (PHE). Background: Urea Cycle Disorders are a series of inborn errors of metabolism related to deficiencies of different enzymes involved in the urea cycle. Background: Organic Acidemias/Acidurias are inborn errors of metabolism characterized by the excretion of organic acids in urine. The most common disorders are caused by abnormal amino acid catabolism of the amino acids valine, isoleucin, threonine and methionine and are called propionic acidemia (PA) and methylmalonic aciduria (MMA). Enzyme defects in the degradation of propionyl-coa or methymalonyl-coa lead to accumulation of these metabolites.
