2 Restore Transit Time We looked at some methods for improving transit time in the third part of Lesson Eight, Part One (Removal). Let s refresh that information and then move on to some simple strategies to decelerate transit time.

3 Restore Transit Time Remember that it s essential to improve your client/patient s bowel transit time. Too fast and you ll have malabsorption and dehydration. Too slow and you ll have autointoxication and a breeding ground for bad bugs.

4 Restore Decrease Transit Time Check medications and supplements but never recommend discontinuation: Antidepressants (e.g. SSRI) Iron supplements (poor quality) Opiates Anticonvulsants Antacids Calcium channel blockers

5 Restore Decrease Transit Time To restore optimal transit time: Remove bad foods Eat more good foods Raw carrot salads (Hompes Method Level I) Hydration Fibre (can go either way better or worse) Eat at the same time each day Relax while eating and optimise cephalic response Sleep circadian rhythm

6 Restore Decrease Transit Time Pumping and movement Abdominal massage Teas ginger, fennel may help Natural laxatives: Prunes, syrup of figs, apricots, rhubarb Fibre: Lightly cooked fruit and veg Carrot salad Rice bran, apple pectin, glucomanan

7 Restore Decrease Transit Time Magnesium citrate powder or capsules can be excellent in gently stimulating the bowel. Using too much has a laxative effect, which isn t desirable. It can also make the intestinal muscles lazy.

8 Restore Decrease Transit Time Triphala is an Ayurvedic constipation remedy (Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki) that I ve found to be incredibly effective. It can be used alone or alongside magnesium citrate.

9 Restore Decrease Transit Time Colon Rx contains both Triphala and magnesium hydroxide (similar effect to mag citrate). Be careful to titrate the dose carefully.

10 Restore Decrease Transit Time Total Daily Purge + is a good product containing fibre, probiotics, dandelion, burdock, fennel, cat s claw ginger root, enzymes, peppermint leaf, slipper elm and a little HCl.

11 Restore Decrease Transit Time Aloe Vera Juice (high quality) can soothe and move the GI tract. AV juice can have a mild laxative effect and stimulate peristalsis.

12 Restore Decrease Transit Time Support HCl: Betaine or Betaine Plus Support pancreatic enzymes: Digestzymes, Plant enzymes, Digest Gold Support liver/gallbladder and bile function: Bile acids, Bilemin, etc. Support Liver, Liver Nutrients, Hepato-Select, etc.

13 Restore Decrease Transit Time Nutrient support that may help to stimulate the GI tract: Vitamin C can have a laxative effect at higher doses Vitamin B5 stimulates peristalsis Magnesium relaxes intestine, laxative Essential fatty acids lubricate GI tract

14 Restore Decrease Transit Time Squatty Potty: the anatomical position for pooping is not reflected in the position we re in when sitting on modern toilets.

15 Restore Decrease Transit Time As a last resort, the use of enemas may be employed, but only if you are confident you can answer client/patient questions about them, and if you have done plenty yourself. Salt bicarb enema Coffee enema Liquid chlorophyll enema Probiotic enema

16 Restore Increase Transit Time To restore optimal transit time: Remove bad foods Eat more good foods Raw carrot salads (Hompes Method Level I) Hydration Fibre (can go either way better or worse) Eat at the same time each day Relax while eating and optimise cephalic response Sleep circadian rhythm

17 Restore Increase Transit Time Check for excessive supplementation: Magnesium Vitamin C 5HTP / tryptophan Fish oils Ginseng Raw garlic

18 Restore Increase Transit Time Check food allergies Check for bad bugs Check antibiotic use / symptom correlation Consider hypethyroidism Consider laxative abuse Check medications antacids, diuretics, blood pressure meds, anti-inflammatories Check recent travel history Check stressful events / fear ( shitting oneself )

19 Restore Increase Transit Time Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast organism that doesn t colonize the GI tract. It can be very helpful in the management of loose stools and diarrhea (it can constipate). Floramyces and Sacro-B (Thorne).

20 Restore Increase Transit Time There s a lot of literature out there on S. boulardii. It won t always resolve loose stools but it is effective in many people. It s so effective that you must be careful not to constipate them! myces+diarrhea

21 Restore Increase Transit Time Probiotics may be helpful in slowing things down. We ll cover them in more detail in the reinoculation lesson.

22 Restore Increase Transit Time Charcoal tablets may assist in the restoration of normal gut transit time.

23 Restore Increase Transit Time Other options include: Slippery elm powder Fenugreek seeds L-glutamine B1, B3 and folic acid Liquid chlorophyll enema Anything you can do to soothe and calm the gut can be helpful

24 4R s Restore - Protocols Specific ideas for protocols using the products in this lesson have been provided and are available beneath this video window. As always, they are not set in stone and you will need to work closely with your client/patient to optimise for their specific requirements and to their specific tolerance levels.
