8 UNDAF Pillar 1 Equitable Economic Growth and Sustainable Livelihoods ensure adequate food, health, and nutritional security local generation of raw materials for fortified food production, value addition new technologies, promotion of private sector partnerships and environmental sustainability. Pillar 2 Disparity Reduction, Equitable and Quality Social Services Rationale: Greater attention to malnutrition, which affects nearly one-fifth of children and one-sixth of women enhance its food and nutrition security through a multisectoral approach for prevention of under-nutrition 1,000 days from conception to 24 months of children.

9 UN s Current Interventions in Nutrition in Sri Lanka: Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Sri Lanka joined the SUN movement in October 2012 SUN Movement supports Sri Lanka s Multi-Sector Action Plan Vision 2016: A Nourished Nation, convened by UNICEF WFP supports the setup and function of a Civil Society Alliance (CSA) through a partnership with Save the Children for advocating, mobilizing, and evaluating national nutrition interventions and restoring civil society awareness on SUN Global Nutrition Report 2014 was launched in Sri Lanka by SUNPF in March 2015 FAO serves as a member MsAPN is supported by UNICEF in 9 districts and the central coordination system facilitated with 16 focal ministries

10 UN s Current Interventions in Nutrition in Sri Lanka: SDG-F Joint Programme on Scaling Up Nutrition through a Multi-Sector Approach Objectives: 1. Improve efficiency and effectiveness of government investment on food security and nutrition 2. Improve school feeding guidelines and policy, build capacity of school and gov officers for nutrition promotion in schools and communities, improve curriculum and garden-based learning for better nutrition education and strengthen nutrition information systems Children Under 5 ~ 1,740,000 beneficiaries Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) ~ 810,900 beneficiaries School Children ~ 4,686,000 beneficiaries WFP/FAO supports ministries in implementing activities of the MsAPN

11 Success Story NuwaraEliya Stunting reduced from 40.8% to 23.8% in 6 years Multi-sectoralnutrition programmes Economic growth and poverty reduction (9.3% to 6.6% below the poverty line)

12 Our Future Multisectoral Model ADVOCATE FOR FINANCIAL ALLOCATIONS SUPPORT POLICY DEVELOPMENT Monitoring and evaluation systems with real time data Emphasis on ensuring nutrition during the first 1,000 days, prevent stunting, reduce wasting and anaemia, while improving dietary diversity among children, adolescents and women, through increased access to sustainable nutrition security and nutrition sensitive interventions and related services BUILD CAPACITY Improve Positive nutritional & dietary practices
