3 Preface Dear colleagues, It is our pleasure to invite you to the new Expertise in Interlocking Nailing course which will be dealing with Advanced treatment concepts for metaphyseal fractures. The treatment of metaphyseal fractures still represents a particular challenge to the surgeon. Whereas in shaft fractures of long bones the nail is considered gold standard, the metaphysis has traditionally been the domain of plates. The debate on the proper implant for metaphyseal fracture fixation is still ongoing. The development of angular stable nails providing strong fixation combined with minimally invasive surgery has given a new impetus to this discussion. Expertise in interlocking nailing will highlight advanced treatment concepts for metaphyseal fractures in the humerus, hip and tibia. The foremost reason to attend this meeting is its high scientific content. Moreover, videos and hands-on sawbone training will help building the bridge between scientific understanding and clinical use. You are invited to bring your own cases of interest for discussion in the dedicated sessions to make this meeting an interactive one.
