1 NEWSLETTER No 6 Wednesday 27th September 2017 GUIDANCE ON INFECTION As you may already be aware we do have pupils in our school who need additional medical care. In order to safeguard these children please will you contact the school office on to report if your child (or anyone in your immediate family) has: CHICKENPOX MEASLES SHINGLES PARVOVIRUS US B19 In order to help you detect illnesses or complaints we have reproduced below extracts from Guidance on infection control in schools and other childcare settings published by Public Health England. A copy of this publication is available for inspection in the School Reception Area and a PDF copy of this document will also be sent via Parentmail. 2. RASHES AND SKIN INFECTIONS INFECTION OR COMPLAINT RECOMMENDED PERIOD TO BE KEPT AWAY FROM SCHOOL Athlete s foot Chickenpox Cold sores (Herpes simplex) German Measles (rubella) Hand, foot and mouth Impetigo Measles Molluscum contagiosum Ringworm Roseola (infantum) Scabies Scarlet fever Slapped cheek/fifth disease. Parvovirus Shingles Warts and verrucae Until all vesicles have crusted over Four days from onset of rash Until lesions are crusted and healed or 48 hours after starting antibiotic treatment Four days from onset of rash Exclusion not usually required Child can return after first treatment Child can return 24 hours after starting appropriate antibiotic treatment (once rash has developed) Exclude only if rash is weeping and cannot be covered

2 3. DIARRHOEA & VOMITING ILLNESS INFECTION OR COMPLAINT RECOMMENDED PERIOD TO BE KEPT AWAY FROM SCHOOL Diarrhoea and/or vomiting E. Coli 0157 VTEC, Typhoid (and paratyphoid) (enteric fever) Shingella (dysentery) Cryptosporidiosis 48 hours from last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting Should be excluded for 48 hours from the last episode of diarrhoea. Further exclusion may be required for some children until they are no longer excreting Exclude for 48 hours from last episode of diarrhoea 4. RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS INFECTION OR COMPLAINT Flu (influenza) Tuberculosis Whooping cough (pertussis) RECOMMENDED PERIOD TO BE KEPT AWAY FROM SCHOOL Until recovered Always consult your local PHE centre Five days from starting antibiotic treatment or 21 days from onset of illness if no antibiotic treatment 5. OTHER INFECTIONS INFECTION OR COMPLAINT RECOMMENDED PERIOD TO BE KEPT AWAY FROM SCHOOL Conjunctivitis Diphtheria Glandular fever Headlice Hepatitis A Hepatitis B, C, HIV/AIDS Meningococcal meningitis/ septicaemia Meningitis due to other bacteria Meningitis viral MRSA Mumps Threadworms Tonsillitis however conjunctivitis is contagious Exclusion is essential. Always consult with your local HPT (immediate treatment is recommended especially where live lice can be seen) Exclude until seven days after onset of jaundice (or seven days after symptom onset if no jaundice) Until recovered Until recovered Exclude child for five days after onset of swelling

4 NURSERY (EYFS1) & RECEPTION (EYFS2) 2017 We have welcomed 26 children into our new nursery and 60 pupils into our newly refurbished EYFS2 setting. The Hull Daily Mail visited to capture our excited children and they were featured in the Hull Daily Mail last week. INDIVIDUAL & FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS Individual and Family Photographs will be taken on TUESDAY 11TH OCTOBER and WEDNESDAY 12TH OCTOBER You are very welcome to have family groups taken at the start of each day. Brothers and sisters within the school will be taken as a family groups so parents do not need to attend. DANNY WASHBROOK HULL FC On Friday 29th September Danny Washbrook from Hull FC will be coming into Gillshill with the Challenge Cup. Daniel is a former Gillshill pupil and his nephew Joseph is in Year 3. We are all looking forward to this very special visit. DANGER NO CYCLING Yesterday, we had an accident which could have been very serious. One of our nursery children was knocked over by a pupil cycling down the pedestrian entrance from Gillshill Road. The parent of the child on the cycle did seem to acknowledge how dangerous this is. There have been fatalities caused by cycles and scooters. Please ensure all children dismount their cycle and scooters as soon as they enter the school site. The Police have been notified and will be patrolling the school site. CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Kirk, Dexter and Alice on the birth of baby Edward. Mother and baby are doing well.

5 HULL FAIR THEMED SCHOOL LUNCH Mrs Waller, our School Chef, is preparing a special lunch to mark the start of Hull Fair on: Friday 6th October 2017 Menu Hot Dogs/Chips/Peas or Beans Helter Skelter Melter Patty Butty Chicken Burger Coconut Shy Pie Toffee Apple Pudding Jacket Potatoes, Pasta Salads and Fruit will also be available. Book and pay for your child s meal in the usual way. MISSING COAT A reception pupil has lost a Khaki Green Next Coat. The coat has the child s name inside. Please can you check your child s coat in case they have brought the wrong one home. Thank you. ON-LINE PAYMENTS We would like to thank parents for their patience and co-operation whilst we are in the process of setting up our on line payment system. We hope that by October half term all the teething problems will be sorted out and we finally become a cashless school.
