1 COCC Transfer Guide B.S. in Kinesiology Kinesiology Program Overview Kinesiology is a degree program that focuses on the biological, physical, social and behavioral sciences in the study of physical activity and sport, and their effects on the health, fitness and quality of life of people of all ages and abilities. The degree is designed to prepare students for employment and graduate school in areas related to kinesiology and exercise, including health professions such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, nutrition and dietetics, physician assistant, athletic training, wellness coaching, education, as well as medicine, public health, and research. To complete a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology, students must complete the following degree requirements: OSU Graduation Requirements Baccalaureate Core College of Science/Biology major requirements This form details the degree requirements and the approved COCC transfer courses to meet these requirements. 2 OSU Graduation Requirements Students pursuing a degree at OSU must meet the following requirements in addition to program and college requirements. 180 total number of credits required to graduate from OSU 60 number of upper division credits required 124 maximum number of credits that will transfer from a community college 45 of last 75 credits must be OSU credits Maintain a 2.0 or university GPA Baccalaureate Core Requirements All Skills and Perspectives are completed with an AAOT. Within the AAOT the student will want to get the noted* classes that will apply to the Biology degree. If a student does not complete an AAOT they will complete all Baccalaureate Core using the COCC Bacc Core course guide. AAOT completes Category *Please note the classes listed that apply to the Biology major to be taken within the AAOT* SKILLS Writing I Writing II Speech Math *Completed in major (MTH 111, 112) Fitness PERSPECTIVES No more than 2 courses from any 1 department allowed Biological Science Physical Science *Completed in Major (CH 221) Additional Science *Completed in Major (CH 222) Cultural Diversity Literature and Arts Social Process & Inst. Western Culture Difference, Pwr., & Discrimination Synthesis Courses Courses may not be from the same department- OSU ONLY N/A Contemporary Global Upper division OSU only Issues N/A Science, Tech, and Society Upper division OSU only
3 KIN Major Requirements (Supporting Courses, Core, Beyond Core) A grade of is required in all courses fulfilling Kinesiology Major Requirements (Required Supporting Courses, Kinesiology Core and Beyond the Core). Note: KIN students are allowed two attempts to meet individual course degree requirements. Students who do not receive the minimum grade required for a course after two attempts (including courses transferred from other institutions) will not be allowed to have grades earned in subsequent attempts count toward meeting Kinesiology degree requirements. As a result, such students may not be able to complete a degree in Kinesiology. *Indicates requirement can be taken at COCC. 4 KIN 314: Introduction to Adaptive Physical Activity KIN 321: Biomechanics of Human Movement KIN 481: Analysis of Critical Issues in Kinesiology (WIC) KIN Courses Beyond the Core (minimum 24 credits): KIN courses are chosen to meet individual students educational goals in preparation for their chosen careers. Students must take a minimum of 24 total credits of 300- & 400-level KIN courses not included in the KIN Core, and among these credits: 1. A minimum of 3 KIN Lab courses (KIN course with a lab component; credits per course may vary), and 2. A minimum of 3 credits of Experiential Learning from the following courses: KIN 301, KIN 306, KIN 401, KIN 406, KIN 410, and KIN practicum courses; or credits earned in research, study abroad, or servicelearning experiences. No more than 9 Experiential Learning credits will count toward the 24 totalcredits required.
