2 Statement of Need: As the rate of athletic and sports related injuries continue to rise, healthcare professionals need to be educated on emerging techniques and the appropriate plan of care for injured athletes. These methodologies are based on best practices currently utilized by orthopaedic sports medicine physicians and rehabilitation specialists. Through didactics, case presentations and an interactive symposium, attendees will be able to identify various injuries commonly sustained in every day athletic activity and provide high quality treatment in order for the injured athlete to be able to return to physical activity in a timely manner. Program Objectives: All CME activities are designed to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to: n IDENTIFY possible traumatic injuries to the brain, neck and spine in real time scenarios and determine if the athlete is in stable condition to be able to return to physical activity or will require additional evaluation and care. n DESCRIBE upper extremity injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand sustained by athletes and the state of the art care required to treat the athlete in n EVALUATE lower extremity injuries to the hip, knee, foot and ankle sustained by athletes and the state of the art care required to treat the athlete to return to play in n EXAMINE and assess possible benefits and roles of healing adjuvants and Performance Enhancing Drugs for treating injuries and maximizing performance. n DESCRIBE evidence-based strategies and current treatment options to increase performance and prevent injuries in the rehabilitation of the injured athlete. Target Audience: Orthopaedists, Sports Medicine Specialists, Joint Replacement Specialists, Trauma Specialists, Physiatrists, Pediatricians, Primary Care Physicians, Rheumatologists, Nurse, PAs, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Coaches, Physical Education Teachers and allied health care professionals. CME Accreditation: is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation: designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nursing Credit: The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) will accept 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit as equal to 1.0 ANCC contact hour. Nurses should inquire with their specialty organizations and professional institutions as to their acceptance of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physical Therapy Credit Designation:, member of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, is recognized by the New York State Education Department s State Board for Physical Therapy as an approved provider of physical therapy and physical therapist assistant continuing education. Participants will receive a certificate at the completion of the conference for 8.1 contact hours. Athletic Trainer Credit Designation: Rehabilitation Network is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. This program has been approved for a maximum of 6.75 hours of Category A continuing education. Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for claiming only those hours actually spent participating in continuing education activity. BOC Approved Provider Number: P8350. Number of hours actually participated: Verification of Attendance: Will be provided to all professionals. Faculty Disclosure Policy: adheres to the ACCME s New Standards for Commercial Support. Any individuals in a position to control the content of a CME activity, including faculty, planners and managers are required to disclose all financial relationships with commercial interests. All identified potential conflicts of interest are thoroughly vetted by North Shore-LIJ for fair balance and scientific objectivity and to ensure appropriateness of patient care recommendations.
