3 The gvernment review The gvernment cmmissined a review t answer the questin: What shuld an apprenticeship be in the future, and hw can apprenticeships meet the needs f the changing ecnmy? The review was cncluded in Nvember 2012

8 Trailblazer apprenticeships were intrduced The Future f Apprenticeships in England: Implementatin Plan was published in Octber 2013 This prcess has been underway since Octber 2013 when the first eight Trailblazer Apprenticeships were launched BINDT launched its apprenticeship develpment prgramme in September 2014

9 Mandatry key dcuments The standard is a tw-page dcument that has t specify what is included in the apprenticeship. The standard cntains headline statements. N rm fr specific detail The assessment plan is a dcument that demnstrates hw the Apprentice will be assessed at the end f the Apprenticeship. Everything in the standard needs t be hlistically tested in the end-pint assessment

16 Advisry dcuments The gvernment s tw mandatry dcuments cver cntent and assessment but they leave a large gap in the middle where emplyers, particularly SMEs need mst supprt. BINDT has prduced and are prducing 23 additinal guidance dcuments including an n-prgramme cmpetency develpment dcument fr each apprenticeship.

17 Future develpments MSc Advanced Industrial Practice (STEM) by negtiatin enhance strng links with industry/prfessinal/trade bdies (Emplyer negtiates the curriculum with Nrthamptn University) flexible, innvative framewrk negtiated curriculum relevant, bespke blended learning supprted enhances learners effectiveness in their current rle whilst simultaneusly wrking twards a qualificatin as it is clsely related t Engineering Registratin, it is likely that BINDT will manage the first year f the MSc Develpment f an Engineering Dctrate (PhD) within an apprenticeship is a pssibility.

18 Cnclusins With the supprt f the UK gvernment, BINDT has intrduced a mdern, cnsistent, funded set f prgrammes that are emplyer-driven There are signs f success with gd numbers f emplyers taking the initiative by taking n apprentices We are gearing up t assess many apprentices in the future and lk frward t assisting their career prgressin thrugh t Engineering Registratin.
