Bringing together those affected by stroke to have their say and influence future campaigns, share experiences and hear the latest developments in stroke care and research. The event starts at 2.00pm on Monday 3 July and finishes at 3.30pm on Tuesday 4 July, with overnight accommodation. If you wish, you can just attend for the day on Tuesday 4 July, with registration at 9am. Programme The interactive and inspiring conference includes talks, workshops, an exhibition, gala dinner and much more. There will be four plenary talks as well as a number of workshops, delivered by stroke survivors and stroke professionals. Take action Share and inspire Developments in stroke care and research Support with life after stroke With you in mind We know that attending a conference might not be easy or something that you have done before. We have carefully chosen a venue that is accessible to suit your needs and designed a programme that allows you time to rest. We gain the views of those affected by stroke when making these decisions. Bursaries Thanks to the support of the Stroke Association, ticket prices are kept as low as possible, however we have bursaries available to help with the costs of tickets and travel. If you need support covering the costs of attending the event, please contact us for more information (contact details on page four). 3 A residential ticket includes: All talks and workshops Access to the exhibition Three course dinner on day one, breakfast and lunch on day two Refreshments throughout Overnight accommodation The venue The Radisson Blu Hotel is a stunning, modern, contemporary hotel offering exceptional meeting space with natural daylight and good accessible facilities that are suited to this event. It is conveniently located at London Stansted Airport, with access either a short 3-minute walk from the main airport terminal via a covered walkway or close to the junctions from the M25 or M11. If you are a wheelchair or scooter user, we recommend that you bring this with you. You can read more about the Radisson Blu Stansted on their website at Accommodation Accommodation on Monday night is included in your ticket price. All rooms are ensuite with a shower over a bath. Twin rooms are available upon request. Please contact us if you wish to book additional night s accommodation. Accessible accommodation Fully accessible bedrooms with wet room bathrooms are available for those unable to manage in a standard room All accessible bedrooms have a double bed. 4 Stroke Exchange Your Voice We have three 30 minute slots available in our exhibition area for anyone who wants to have their say on stroke. This is a platform to share your stroke story, your achievements in life after stroke, or inspire others how to take action on stroke. If you would like to be considered for a 30 minute slot in the exhibition area, please visit for further information. Help shape the Stroke Association s policy positions We are developing policies on the big issues which affect stroke survivors, their families and friends. Find out how we do this and share your thoughts on the latest policy position. b. Raising the profile of stroke and the Stroke Association As the leading UK stroke charity, the Stroke Association should be better known than it is. Take part in a consultation on how we can become better known and reach more people affected by stroke. c. What support is available in your area? Come and take part in this interactive session exploring what stroke support and care is Page 7

8 available in your area. Please note: this session is aimed at those who are not already receiving a Stroke Association service or member of a stroke club or group. Workshop 1 Tuesday 11am a. Mental health, anxiety and depression Explore the relationship between these hidden effects of stroke, with updates on what research is being done to support better care in this field. b. Fatigue after stroke: what research tells us This is a repeat of the popular and informative session ran at the UKSA events in Learn about the latest research into fatigue after stroke including what we still don t know. Please note: This session is looking at the latest research and won t necessarily look at methods of coping with fatigue. c. Managing finances after stroke Stroke has a huge impact on your personal finances. Come and hear from others on how they have adapted to the financial shock of stroke and share your top tips. Workshop 2 Tuesday 1.20pm a. Speaking out for stroke locally Find out how you can be a representative for stroke locally and get involved in taking action on stroke in your own area. b. Campaigning for a national stroke strategy one year on Last year the Stroke Association launched a new campaign A New Era for Stroke calling for a new national stroke strategy. Come along to find out the progress we ve made. You will also hear from a stroke survivor who has been involved in the campaign and find out how you too can get involved and take action. c. Improving support for carers Hear about projects underway to improve the support currently available to those caring for someone affected by stroke. Please note: This session is for carers only. Support will be available for stroke survivors wishing to attend other sessions at this time. Marketing What do you hope to gain from attending the event?
