Physical exercises in the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis at risk of brace treatment SOSORT consensus paper 2005 Autocorrection in 3D (97%) Restoration of the sagittal alignment (67%) Stabilisation (87%) ADL training (83%) Theoretical information to the patient (87%)
December 2011: To have a view on the physiotherapeutic care for scoliosis patients the working group SCOLIOSIS was founded as part of association of physiotherapists physioaustria A questionnaire with 14 (quantitative and qualitative) questions was built: Data for first cross sectional study was collected from physiotherapists (members of physioaustria 2012) (n=752) Data for second cross sectional study was collected only from physiotherapists and chiropracters (members of SOSORT 2012) (n=52)
Do you treat patients with scoliosis with a Cobb curve of more than 25? Austria SOSORT 40% Yes 100% Yes 60% No
Do you cooperate with orthopaedists when treating patients with scoliosis? Is the main emphasis of this orthopaedists work scoliosis, have they done any optional training courses in the field of scoliosis? Austria 41% (n=91) Yes 59% (n=132) No SOSORT 94% (n=32) Yes 6% (n=2) No
Austrian and SOSORT physiotherapists(n=404) see a need 85% (n=342) for rehabilitation centers for scoliosis with intensive treatment as an in patient as well as an out patient. Both groups (n=404) wish to work in an interdisciplinary team with orthopaedists, orthopaedic technicians and other physiotherapists whose main emphasis of their work is scoliosis.
Which kind of training courses have you successfully completed? Which concepts are you using during the scoliosis therapy? Please name all concepts and number them according to the frequency of use! Please name only concepts you are specifically trained for.
Austria: 200 therapists answered Schroth therapy (n=127) Spiraldynamics (n=41) Functional kinetics (n=36) Manualtherapy (n=34) Osteopathy (n=24) Sporttherapy, climbing (n=19) Craniosacraltherapy (n=12) Vojta (n=9) Visceral Osteopathy (n=9) Kinesiotape (n=7) Triggerpoint (n=5) Bobath, PNF (n=2 each) SEAS, Feldenkrais, Hippotherapy, Neurodynamics, local stabilisation (n=1 each) SOSORT: 50 therapists answered Schroth therapy / BSPTS(Rigo) (n=21) SEAS (n=11) CLEAR (n=8) Manualtherapy (n=4) SpineCor (n=3) FITS, CBP Chiropractic Biophysics, DoboMed, Soft tissue massage (n=2 each) Scoliogold, FED, Manual therapy MFR, PNF, Functional kinetics, chaînes musculaires et articulaires Mme SRUYF BUGNET HOUDINGSWEERSTAND from Holland Anatomy Trains, Myofascial release, Feldenkrais, Pilates (n=1 each)
