Ulrich, Ph.D. Developmental Neuromotor Control Laboratory Treadmill Training for Infants Born with Spina Bifida (Research team: Lee, Nishiyori, Bianco, & Ulrich) Aim: To assess the effects of early aggressive home-based intervention on infants stepping patterns and development of underlying subsystems (reflexes, muscle strength, & body composition) Developmental Trajectory of Bone Mineral Content in Infants with Typical Development and Myelomeningocele (Research team: Lee & Ulrich) 1
2 Aim: To assess changes in bone mineral content (BMC) over the first 18 months of life for infants born with myelomeningocele and healthy infants. In addition, to test the effect of weight bearing exercise on raw and normalized BMC within infants with myelomeningocele. Functioning of Peripheral Ia Pathways in Infants with Myelomeningocele: Responses in Antagonistic Muscle pairs (Research team: Lee, Teulier, Ulrich, & Martin) Aim: To evaluate the function of monosynaptic, polysynaptic, and pre-synaptic Ia-proprioceptive spinal nerve loops for locomotor muscles in the legs of 2 to 10-month-old infants with myelomeningocele. Spinal-level Reflex Responses in Leg Muscles of Newly Walking Toddlers (Research team: Lee & Ulrich) Aim: To detail the quality and change in sensorimotor reflexes in toddlers with typical development as a function of walking skill and experience. Master s Research Advisor: Taeyou Jung, Ph.D. The Use of Cuff Weights for Aquatic Gait Training in People with Stroke Aim: To investigate how the application of additional weights to the affected leg influences gait patters of people post-stroke during aquatic treadmill walking. Research Assistant Advisor: Taeyou Jung, Ph.D. Center of Achievement 3-demensional gait analysis of aquatic treadmill walking compared to conventional pool walking for people post-stroke. Role: Designed data collection and analysis procedures. The effect of aquatic exercise on balance outcomes in individuals with Parkinson s disease. Role: Taught and supervised intervention exercise, and participated in data collection. The effects of aquatic treadmill walking on gait outcomes in individuals with Parkinson s disease. Role: Designed data collection and analysis procedures. The effect of aquatic exercise on muscular strength, endurance, pain and fatigue for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Role: Taught intervention exercises. The effects of cool pool exercise on gait and balance for individuals with Multiple Sclerosis. Role: Taught intervention cool pool exercises. IV.
