Briefly describe the history of the patient and list all factors that contribute to the patient s presence in the UNICEF camp: 2. Reasons(s) for seeking treatment: Chapter 16: 3. Socialization is defined as a continuing process whereby an individual acquires a personal identity and learns the norms, values, behavior, and social skills appropriate to his or her social position. Resocialization is the process of learning new attitudes and norms required for a new social role. Identify examples of the application of resocialization/rehabilitation in chapter How many times throughout chapter 16 is Mr. Beah told It is not your fault? Research the rehabilitation of child soldiers. Discuss the importance of separating the behavior from the person in this process.
2 5. Social Psychology-Culture shock is a state of bewilderment and distress experienced by an individual who is suddenly exposed to a new, strange, or foreign social and cultural environment. How does that term apply to what Ishmael s experience in chapter 16? 6. Learning & Motivation: Shaping is a behavioral term that refers to gradually molding or training an a person to perform a specific response (behavior) by reinforcing any responses that are similar to the desired response. How is shaping seen on page 148? Why were those specific rewards chosen (motivation)? See pages for another example. CHAPTER SEVENTEEN 7. Page 153: Developmental Psychology: For what reason do you think that Nurse Esther pressures Mr. Beah to say his real name? For what reasons does she give him the Walkman and tapes?
