Walk through the four quadrants and share briefly what you did or didn t do in relation to being emotionally intelligent? 32 Jo-Hari Window 1. A change in any one quadrant will affect all other quadrants. 2. It takes energy to hide, deny, or be blind to behavior which is involved in interaction with others. 3. Threat tends to decrease awareness; mutual trust tends to increase awareness. 4. Forced awareness (exposure) is undesirable an usually ineffective. 5. Interpersonal learning means a change taken place so that Quadrant 1 is larger and one or more of the other quadrants has grown smaller.

34 Effective Relationships Know yourself : Awareness of your behaviours helps you to communicate powerfully. Being aware gives you the knowledge to make changes. Control yourself: Once you have increased awareness of your behaviour, you can begin to consciously control it. Know others : Learn to recognize behavioural differences in others to create win / win situations. Appeal to other s basic needs and wants: before you can appeal to a person s basic needs you must know their needs and wants.
