Birren, PhD Founder of CCGG The California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics (CCGG) is a statewide non-profit leadership organization that promotes the quality of life of California s diverse aging population by informing and integrating educational programs, workforce development and public policy. CCGG was founded in 1980 to foster statewide communication among educators and researchers in gerontology and geriatrics, and to promote a statewide plan for education in aging. The goals of CCGG today are to: serve as the statewide expert voice in gerontology and geriatrics education, workforce development and policy; provide system-wide connections to strengthen and improve the quality of gerontology and geriatrics education in California; join together educators, policymakers and service providers to increase access to gerontology and geriatrics education programs; provide a forum for faculty development; and promote opportunities for networking and collaboration between the multiple disciplines of aging; among students and faculty; and with aging and non-aging service providers, business and legislators.
