1 July 3, 2013 The Physician Compare Team Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services 7500 Security Boulevard Baltimore, MD Re: Physician Compare Intelligent Search To Whom it May Concern, The American Society of Hematology appreciates the opportunity to provide comments on the new Intelligent Search functionality on the Physician Compare website. ASH represents approximately 14,000 clinicians and scientists committed to the study and treatment of blood and blood-related diseases, including blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and nonmalignant illnesses such as anemias, thrombosis and bleeding disorders. ASH members include hematologists and hematologist/oncologists who regularly render services to Medicare beneficiaries. ASH tested the search functionality of the site to verify (1) the site includes all key hematology-related terms; and (2) when the key hematology-related terms are entered, hematology is listed in the search ASH is pleased to see that several search terms generated hematology or hematology/oncology in the search results; however, the Society has the following concerns: 1. A number of hematology-related terms are not programmed into the system and when the term is entered into the search field the system generates 0 2. A number of hematology-related terms are programmed into the system, but when the term is entered into the search field, the system does not generate hematology or hematology/oncology in the search 3. The acronym for several hematology-related terms are part of the system and generate search results, but the full version of these hematology-related terms does not always generate Attached, please find a comprehensive list of the hematology-related terms searched and ASH s specific concerns regarding the corresponding search ASH recommends updating the site to ensure that all of the hematology-related terms are incorporated into the search engine and hematology is listed in the results for the noted terms. Thank you again for the opportunity to submit this feedback. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact ASH Government Relations and Practice Manager Stephanie Kaplan at skaplan@hematology.org or Sincerely, Suzanne M. Leous, MPA Director, Government Relations, Practice and Scientific Affairs 1
