Starting in 2005, our interdisciplinary and multiprofessional team offers a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to prostate cancer patients at all stages. The core team, which includes urologic surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and pathologists, works in synergy with the non core team composed of imaging specialists, experts in palliative and supportive care, dedicated psychologists and experts in rehabilitation. Multidisciplinary management through weekly clinics for newly referred patients, biweekly clinics for patients on active surveillance and weekly tumor boards for complex, non univocal cases, objective proposal of all the therapeutic and observational options, active surveillance, patient centeredness and empowerment in the decision making process, focus on quality of life and life styles (physical exercise, nutrition), and promotion of interdisciplinary education are the main targets of the Prostate Cancer Unit at Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori. Preclinical, translational and clinical research is a core activity at Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, with over 30 protocols and studies running on prostate cancer.
