2 Activity Information COURSE DESCRIPTION AND STATEMENT OF NEED This one-day live conference will provide the practicing clinician with the latest clinical and translational insights and advances in pulmonary and critical care medicine, presented by experts in the field. Program content will cover various lung diseases, including COPD, asthma, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and associated comorbidities. This state-of-the-art update will provide health care professionals with the clinical information needed to keep pace with rapid changes in research, technology and surgical advances, as well as practical strategies for treating and optimizing the care of patients. The program is divided into three sessions, each of which concludes with a panel discussion to allow participants to actively engage with faculty. Session 1 will explore new developments in COPD and asthma, the pathobiology of IPF and implications for therapy and new insights into drug-induced lung disease. Session 2 will detail the pathobiology of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), the management of refractory hypoxemia in the ICU and recommendations for the management of sepsis. Session 3 will examine device management and DVT and PE, present a new paradigm in PAH management, discuss approaches to mediastinal masses and lung cancer and update participants on interventional bronchoscopy. There is an urgent need to improve the delivery of evidenced-based care in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. TARGET AUDIENCE This educational activity is intended for pulmonary/critical care physicians, internists, cardiologists, thoracic surgeons, and healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with pulmonary disorders. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Recognize the clinical manifestations of asthma and describe the current options for diagnosis, management and treatment Summarize the pathobiology of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and evaluate current and emerging therapeutic options Evaluate indications and outcomes of devices and the implications for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) Interpret the latest research in lung cancer and mediastinal masses and develop a systematic approach to diagnosis and treatment Identify the co-morbidities associated with IPF, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and COPD and the strategies needed to address them Discuss interventional bronchoscopy for diagnostics, therapeutics and airway management Review recent updates in the management of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and select the most appropriate treatment option Describe the most current evidence based management approaches for sepsis ACCREDITATION Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CREDIT DESIGNATION Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. NURSES The California State Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses approved by the ACCME for category 1 credit as meeting the continuing education requirements for license renewal.
