Assist agencies is connecting with other organizations who can further assist with the situation. Such as counselling, legal information, mental health, caregiver supports, etc. Provide consultation on elder abuse cases to review options and resources for intervention. Do not act as case managers for cases of abuse.

6 WHAT IS ELDER ABUSE? The World Health Organization defines elder abuse as: a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring in any relationship(where there is an expectation of trust), that causes harm or distress to an older person. The abuser can be a spouse, a child, a family member, friend or paid caregiver. (WHO 2004)

10 Community Coordination This webinar is an example of supporting our networks and stakeholders to learn about prevention of cyber frauds and scams. Elder Abuse Ontario has supported many organizations with applications and partnerships pertaining to the prevention and intervention of Elder Abuse. EAO has leveraged partnerships between agencies to create policies and procedures to create safe spaces for older adults who are victims of abuse. We thank Cameron for providing his expertise in this field.

11 Our Presenter: Field is a Staff Sergeant with the Toronto Police Service and currently manages the Investigative Training team at the Toronto Police College. Prior to that he managed the Corporate Crimes Team of the Organized Crime Enforcement Service. He is the co-founder of the Social Media Working Group on financial crime prevention and has authored articles on fraud reporting for companies, fraud prevention and crime prevention through social media. He is presently the Deputy Director of the Canadian Society of Evidence Based Policing and a former Vice President of the Canadian Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. He recently completed his Masters dissertation on Seniors and On-Line Fraud Prevention and is lecturing frequently on fraud and fraud prevention in digital spaces. He received a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Justice Studies from the University of Guelph and a M.Sc. in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. He is interested in collaborating on research into sociodemographic factors and how they affect both fraudsters and fraud victims. He is a frequent public speaker in the private and public sector on such topics as fraud prevention, corporate risk management, new and social media as a means of crime and loss prevention, behavioural assessment and analysis, large case management and investigative techniques and managing risk in law enforcement.
