the INSTITUT DE L ŒIL DES LAURENTIDES The Institut de l œil des Laurentides is a unique concept in Canada, conceived and developed by visionary health practitioners. The Institut de l œil des Laurentides is recognized as Canada s leading medical centre specialized in ophthalmology. The various ophthalmologists at the Institute provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services and high quality surgeries and procedures to all Quebecers. The Institut de l œil des Laurentides draws on creativity to constantly come up with new ideas that meet the expectations and satisfaction of patients. 2
The INSTITUT DE L ŒIL DES LAURENTIDES OUR MISSION Contribute to the well-being of patients by providing diagnostic and therapeutic services available to all in a safe environment using innovative equipment on the cutting edge of technology. OUR MISSION IS THE FUTURE Inspire confidence through the commitment of its staff, its quality of care and its our contribution to the well-being of patients. OUR CORE VALUES The well-being of patients, respect, teamwork and innovation are the values that guide the decisions and actions of the people who are working to ensure the achievement of both its mission and vision. 3
SERVICES PROVIDED The Institut de l œil des Laurentides offers an innovative one-stop concept in which all ophthalmological services are dispensed under the same roof. CATARACT Surgery is the only option to permanently remove a cataract. At the Institut de l œil des Laurentides, we offer: refractive cataract surgery using specialty custom the CATALYS Precision Laser System intraocular lenses the latest generation of soft intraocular lenses The Institut de l œil des Laurentides is the first cataract surgery centre in Québec to offer refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery using the CATALYS Precision Laser System. This laser represents a stateof-the-art technological innovation that enables safe non-invasive customized surgery. Unlike traditional cataract surgery, the Catalys Precision Laser procedure allows the surgeon to better plan the various incisions (length and depth) and produce a perfectly round capsulorrhexis of the desired size and centred over the capsular sac, using much less pressure to fragment the cataract. As a result, patients regain their vision more quickly. The Catalys laser is coupled with 3-D imaging software (OCT), which delivers the consistency of a computer-guided treatment. The post-operative results, including visual acuity, are excellent. GLAUCOMA Glaucoma is an eye disease that irreversibly and permanently alters the function of the optic nerve. Several risk factors can predispose the optic nerve to glaucoma damage. The damage to the optic nerve occurs slowly and progressively, so the condition is most often asymptomatic. Ultimately, a person can become completely blind if undiagnosed or does not receive adequate treatment. Depending on the type of glaucoma, the treatment may be medical or surgical. laser iridotomy surgery selective laser trabeculoplasty implants: istent and Hydrus THE INSTITUT DE L ŒIL DES LAURENTIDES IS THE CANADIAN LEADER IN CATALYS LASER-ASSISTED CATARACT SURGERY. THE OPHTHALMOLOGISTS AT THE INSTITUTe HAVE PERFORMED THOUSANDS OF SURGERIES. 4
RETINA? The retina is a highly active structure of the eye that requires an efficient metabolism and adequate vascularization. Several conditions can compromise the integrity of the retina. All the treatments are primarily aimed at stabilizing the visual condition to prevent further damage. PRP and PCA lasers Anti-VEGF intravitreal injections: Lucentis, Avastin Cortisone intravitreal injections: Ozurdex and Kenalog Jetrea intravitreal injections OCULOPLASTIC Eylea intravitreal injections When needed, IOL s retinolo gists perform surgery in their respective hospital in Montréal Oculoplastic surgery is a subspecialty of ophthalmology that deals with the structures surrounding the eyeball, including the eyelids, eyelashes, orbit of the eye and its contents, as well as the tear drain system (lacrimal gland and ducts). 5 COSMETIC EYELID SURGERIES Dermatochalasis Xanthelasma EYELID MALPOSITIONS Entropion Ectropion Ptosis EYELID LESIONS Excision of a tumour or cyst from the eyelids Chalazion or stye BASAL CELL CARCINOMA PUNCTAL OCCLUSION CONJUNCTIVAL SURGERIES Pingueculitis Pterygium Conjunctival lesions or conjonctivochalasis DYSTONIA IBOTOX TM CORNEAL SURGERY KERATECTOMY ASSESSMENT OF CORNEAL COLLAGEN PHOTOPOLYMERIZATION (cross linking) Keratoconus is a corneal dystrophy that can cause a reduction in vision. Corneal collagen photopolymerization is commonly called cross-linking. An assessment at the Institut de l oeil des Laurentides helps determine if this treatment could stabilize or reverse the condition.

ORTHOPTIC ASSESSMENT The Orthoptic Assessment Clinic of the Institut de l œil des Laurentides serves patients with binocular vision problems. Its main objectives are to identify, through an in-depth examination, various binocular vision problems and to determine the possible cause(s). Various therapeutic approaches may also be considered to resolve functional disorders. Therapeutic tools may be suggested in collaboration with another vision professional. DRY EYE Dry eye is a very common and widespread syndrome. This abnormal condition might appear simple at first glance, but it can have a significant effect on a patient s visual comfort and quality of life. At the Institut de l œil des Laurentides, various therapeutic approaches are suggested. LOW VISION The Low Vision Clinic is intended for patients who have experienced a certain percentage of vision loss that is impossible to improve with treatments, eyeglasses or contact lenses. The low vision experts at the Institut de l œil des Laurentides provide helpful advice on changes or improvements that can be made to patients living environment to better adapt it to their vision. They also offer advice and test the best visual aids on the market to enable patients to carry on or resume their normal activities. DIABETES Diabetes can have harmful effects on vision and eye health. The greatest risk is diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy affects the blood vessels of the retina. Over the long term, retinal cells are deprived of nutrients and oxygen, encouraging the formation of new, inefficient blood vessels. Prevention remains the best tool to avoid permanent vision loss. Complete eye exam with pupil dilation Retinal imaging Retinal scan (OCT) to detect more precisely the presence of macular edema Laser treatments or Anti- VEGF intravitreal injections that help slow the progression of diabetic retinopathy and, in some cases, preserve vision At the Institut de l oeil des Laurentides, diabetic patients are offered a complete assessment. 7
EYE EMERGENCY The Institut de l œil des Laurentides operates an emergency eye clinic available to patients upon referral from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays to Fridays Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 8
