2 Page 2 WVGS 13th Annual Scientific Assembly Target Audience This conference is planned for an interdisciplinary audience of healthcare professionals., including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and social workers, Program Overview and Objectives The 2017 West Virginia Geriatrics Society Scientific Assembly, The Aging West Virginian is designed to enhance the care of the geriatric population and address pressing issues currently on the forefront of geriatric care. This activity will address issues related to hospice care, palliative care, long term care, the issue of opioid addiction, how statistics are related to the healthcare professional environment in medically underserved areas and the management of pain. The Proposed content of the CME relates to the diversity seen in our state including the rural nature. This CME, in line with the American Geriatric Society, will assist the collaborative practice of all disciplines involved in Geriatric care in West Virginia. The Assembly will increase the facilitation of knowledge and the discussion on potential ways the multiple disciplines can and should work together within their scopes of practice. After attending the Assembly attendees will be able to: Recognize how shortages in health care services impacts care Verbalize basic understanding of the Long Term Care Federal Rule Identify treatment options for HIV/AIDS. Counsel patients and families about CPR and advanced directives Recognize key components of cultural competence in healthcare Analyze the effects of regulation on pain management As part of the Scientific Assembly, WVGS is sponsoring its annual trainee poster competition. The winning poster presenter will receive an award stipend of up to $1, to attend the 2018 American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Meeting in Orlando, FL on May 3-5,2018.
