2 In Honor & Memory of STEPHEN A. MATARAZZO, MD As a gastroenterologist diagnosed with Crohn s Disease, Dr. Stephen A. Matarazzo personally experienced his patients excruciating symptoms. As a result, he treated them with the empathy, compassion and tenderness that comforted him during his own battle with the disease. In 1994, the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn s and Colitis Foundation of America recognized Dr. Matarazzo as Physician of the Year. It was a great loss to us all when Dr. Matarazzo succumbed to cancer in His sincere devotion to his patients and his students will be forever remembered. As one tribute, the residents and faculty of Chestnut Hill Hospital established the Stephen A. Matarazzo Compassionate Physician Award, to be given in perpetuity.

5 SPEAKERS Ari Grinspan, MD I Mount Sinai Hospital New York Dr. Grinspan, a fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology, is well known as a researcher, presenter and author. As primary investigator for Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, New York, NY, he designed and implemented a clinical protocol for fecal microbiota transplantation. He s also studied access to urgent endoscopy and created an algorithm to identify and schedule patients in need. Thomas A. Judge, MD I Cooper University Health Care Dr. Judge is associate professor of medicine at Cooper University Health Care, Camden, NJ, and practices in its gastroenterology department and its Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. His special interests include inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrheal disorders and small bowel disease. Barry Kaufman, MD, FACG, CNSP I Atlantic Gastroenterology Associates Dr. Kaufman is the director of the Atlantic Gastroenterology Associates Crohn s and Colitis Treatment Center and its Celiac Diagnostic Center in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. He has been principle investigator for many clinical trials in Crohn s Disease and ulcerative colitis, and was a past Delaware Valley CCFA Physician of the Year. Howard M. Ross, MD I Temple University Hospital Dr. Ross was recently appointed chief of colorectal surgery at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, previously serving as director at Meridian Health System. A prolific researcher, he s published dozens of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, abstracts and posters. The Crohn s and Colitis Foundation of America named Dr. Ross 2013 Physician of the Year. Elizabeth Turner, PhD, MS I Children s Hospital of Philadelphia Dr. Turner is a pediatric psychologist for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Children s Hospital of Philadelphia. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Children s Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School. Her interests include pediatric gastrointestinal diseases, specifically celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and Eosinophilic esophagitis. Thomas A. Ullman, MD, FACG I Mount Sinai Hospital Dr. Ullman is associate professor of medicine, gastroenterology, at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, NY. His major research focus is cancer in inflammatory bowel disease. His work includes identification of the clinical risk factors for colon cancer in IBD. He has conducted studies on dysplasia in ulcerative colitis and the influence of inflammation on carcinogenesis in IBD.
