Barth, Ph.D., ABPP-Cn John Edward Fowler Professor Director, Brain Injury and Sports Concussion Institute University of Virginia, School of Medicine Dr. Barth presently holds the position of Professor and Co-Director of the Neurocognitive Assessment Laboratory and Section Head, Neurocognitive Studies in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, with joint appointments in the Department of Neurological Surgery and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the UVA Medical and Engineering Schools. He is also one of the founders of the UVA Brain Injury and Sports Concussion Institute, and he is the PI and Senior Scientist for Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center: Charlottesville. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology and is past president of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, current president of the National Academy of Neuropsychology Foundation Board of Trustees, past president of the Virginia Psychological Association and holds the emeritus distinction of the Virginia Psychological Foundation. He is on the editorial board of 10 scientific journals, has co-authored or edited three books and is an author of more than 200 scholarly articles and book chapters. Dr. Barth is a member of the NFL Players Association Concussion Committee and works with the Department of Defense and the American Academy of Neurology on the development of concussion management guidelines. In 1992 he was awarded the John Edward Fowler Professorship in Clinical Psychology, an endowed chair in the UVA Eminent Scholars Program. He is the recipient of the National Academy of Neuropsychology s 2005 Distinguished Neuropsychologist Award for lifetime achievements in the field of Neuropsychology, and in 2006, he received the Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychology s Distinguished Scientific Contributions in Clinical Psychology Award.

DeKosky, M.D. Vice President and Dean James Carroll Flippin Professor of Medical Science Professor, Department of Neurology University of Virginia School of Medicine Charlottesville, VA Dr. DeKosky is the James Carroll Flippin Professor of Medical Science and Vice President and Dean of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. From 2000 to 2008 he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh. He served as Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Geriatrics and Neuropsychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry/Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, also at the University of Pittsburgh, from 1992 to Dr. DeKosky was Director of the Pitt Alzheimer s Disease Research Center (ADRC) from Currently, he is the Director of the Alzheimer s Disease Research Center and the Memory Disorders Clinic at the University of Virginia. His basic research centers on structural and neurochemical changes in normal aging and dementia and effects of traumatic brain injury on risk of Alzheimer s disease. His clinical research has centered on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer s Disease. Dr. DeKosky has been the recipient of multiple peer-reviewed grants. Notably, he was the Principal Investigator of the pivotal study demonstrating the clinical application of the breakthrough amyloidimaging agent Pittsburgh Compound B (PiB). He also directed an NIH-funded national multicenter trial in to assess whether Ginkgo biloba can prevent or delay onset of dementia in normal elderly adults. Dr. DeKosky has also served on several boards and advisory committees, notably as a member of the FDA s Peripheral and Central Nervous System (PCNS) Drugs Advisory Committee. In 2010 he was appointed to the National Advisory Council of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of the NIH. Dr. DeKosky is a member of the national Board of Directors of the Alzheimer s Association; and is a former member of the Board of Directors for Alzheimer s Disease International (ADI), the international organization of national Alzheimer s Associations, and is now a member of the ADI Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel. Dr. DeKosky has served as Chair of the Section on Geriatrics of the American Academy of Neurology, and chaired their Practice Parameters Committee for Early Detection, Diagnosis and Management of Dementia. He served on the Neurology Council of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). In 2010 he was elected President of the Neurology Council and Vice President of the ABPN.

3 Dr. DeKosky has received numerous professional recognitions including both the Rita Hayworth Award and the Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Institute Award from the Alzheimer s Association and the Zaven Khachaturian Award for his contributions to the field of Alzheimer s Disease research. He has received a Teacher Investigator Development Award from the NINDS, the Presidential Award of the American Neurological Association, and is listed in "The Best Doctors in America" and America s Top Doctors. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He serves on the editorial boards of six of the leading neurology and Alzheimer's clinical publications. He is the founding Chair of the Executive Council of ISTAART, the International Society to Advance Alzheimer s Disease Research and Treatment. As Dean of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. DeKosky is particularly committed to expanding translational research. The School of Medicine has an NCI-designated Cancer Center, clinical trials in additional focus areas including neurology, metabolism and the artificial pancreas, and robust research programs in imaging, genomics, and biomedical engineering. Cross-University educational and research initiatives are ongoing with the schools of business, law and engineering, and a current strategic planning effort within the Health System highlights expanding the clinical research enterprise.

Guskiewicz, PhD, ATC Kevin Guskiewicz is the Kenan Distinguished Professor and founding director of the Matthew Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center and the Center for the Study of Retired Athletes at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves as the Chair of Exercise and Sport Science and holds joint appointments in the Department of Orthopaedics, UNC Injury Prevention Research Center and Doctoral Program in Human Movement Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. Over the past 17 years, his clinical research program has focused on sport-related concussion. He has investigated the effect of sport-related concussion on balance and neuropsychological function in high school and collegiate athletes, the biomechanics of sport concussion and the long-term neurological effects of concussion in retired professional football players. Kevin has received 22 funded research grants, and published 135 manuscripts (95 peerreviewed journal publications; and 8 textbook chapters on sport concussion). Additionally, he has presented over 200 national and international lectures on the topic of sport-related concussion since In addition to his research and scholarship, he teaches courses in Sports Medicine, Human Anatomy and Research Methods in Sports Medicine. He has been awarded Fellowship in the American College of Sports Medicine in 2003, the American Academy of Kinesiology in 2006 and the National Athletic Trainers Association in In 2010 he was named to the NCAA s Concussion Committee and the NFL s Head, Neck, and Spine Committee. In September 2011, he was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, given annually to individuals who show exceptional merit and promise for continued and enhanced creative work.

Consulting Physician, Copper Mountain Medical Clinic Dr. Feeney practices family medicine and serves as President of Colorado Mountain Medical, P.C. in Edwards, Colorado. He has extensive experience in a constellation of health issues affecting the very young to the mature adult, including women s health issues and sports-related injuries. He is dedicated to wellness and comprehensive health care for the whole family. He has a special interest in multiple sclerosis and served as the Medical Director of the Heuga Center for the Physically Challenged, now named Can Do M.S, with which he is still actively involved. He has a further interest and experience in concussions in athletes, seeing an average of two TBI cases daily. Dr. Feeney s undergraduate degree was in Zoology and he planned a career in Marine Biology. He missed people, however, so he decided on medicine as his life s work and became a family physician. Board-certified, he holds an M.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Colorado Medical Society. Dr. Feeney spends one day a week at the Copper Mountain Medical Clinic and is the physician advisor to the Copper Mountain Ski Patrol. He has been a Clinical Instructor in an orthopedic rotation at Vail-Copper Mountain for the University of Colorado.
