1 ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS HUNGARICI Volume 97 Budapest, 2005 pp New Rotundabaloghia Hirschmann, 1975 species (Acari: Mesostigmata: Uropodina) from the Dominican Republic J. KONTSCHÁN Systematic Zoology Research Group, Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum H-1088, Budapest, Baross u. 13, Hungary. Abstract - Rotundabaloghia dominicana sp. n., R. szuetsi sp. n., R. punctata sp. n., R. arragensis sp. n. and R. pocsiana sp. n. are described from the Dominican Republic. With 17 figures. Key words - Acari, Uropodina, Rotundabaloghia, new species, Dominican Republic. INTRODUCTION Several soil, moss and leaf litter materials were collected in the different levels of the tropical rain forests of the Dominican Republic on the last expedition of the members of the Systematic Zoology Research Group and the Bryology Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The found Rotundabaloghia species are described in this paper. The material is stored in alcohol and deposited in the Collections of Soil Zoology of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Species of the genus Rotundabaloghia HIRSCHMANN, 1975 are widely distributed in the tropical areas of the world. Sixteen Rotundabalogia species were described from New Guinea (HIRSCHMANN 1975), 34 from several parts of Asia (Japan, New Guinea, Philippines and Borneo) (HIRSCHMANN & HIRAMATSU 1992), 30 were published from Africa (HIRSCHMANN 1992a, KONTSCHÁN 2004), 28 from Columbia (HIRSCHMANN 1992e) and 41 from several parts of South America (Venezuela, Ecuador, Pern, Bolivia, Brazilia) and Central America (Guatemala) (HIRSCHMANN 1992c). No Rotundabaloghia species have hitherto been found in the Caribbean region (WISNIEWSKI 1993).

2 Rotundabaloghia HIRSCHMANN, 1975 Diagnosis - Size small, shape of idiosoma oval or circular, genital shield of female large, oblong. Ventral side of gnathosoma with four setae (C1, C2, C3, C4). CI long, smooth and setiform, the other setae short and smooth or serrated. Corniculi horn-like. Laciniae short or long and covered by short hairs. Branches and the base of epistoma serrated. Branches of tritosternum with serrated margin. Chelicerae with nodus. Species groups - Identification keys to the species groups were given by HIRSCHMANN (1975, 1992d). Diagnosis of the species group kaszabi: female genital and ventrianal shields with ornamentation. All ventrianal setae smooth. Of the new species described in this paper, it includes Rotundabaloghia dominicana sp. n., R. szuetsi sp. n., R. punctata sp. n. and R. arragensis sp. n. Diagnosis of the species group haradai: female genital shield with ornamentation, ventrianal shield without ornamentation. All ventrianal setae smooth. It includes Rotundabaloghia pocsiana sp. n.
