Survey Research Report 1 Sexual Behaviors & Condom Use Survey Research Report The Sexual Behaviors and Condom Use Survey Irene Jones SOWK TTH Tuskegee University April 20, 2012.

Survey Research Report 2 Introduction Sexual Behaviors & Condom Use Survey Sexual behavior is having sexual intercourse with a partner of either the opposite sex or the same sex. There are many ways other than sexual intercourse that can be to sexually behavior, for example oral sex from either male or female is considered still classified as a sexual behavior. Description of Problem: The problem shows Sexual behaviors between female and male, different regions, the respondents GPA s, respondents classification and there sexual activities in either the last year or months. Throughout the research data will show the respondents responses to curtain questions such as: What type of contraceptives methods they use, at what age they became sexually active and how long, how many sex partners they have had within the last year, and if they have had protected sex to prevent the birth of a child. There are 100 respondents who took the survey and expressed their opinions and answers to the subject sexual behaviors and the use of condoms. Attributes to be measured: This questionnaire is meant to assess the views of sexual behavior and condom use of Tuskegee University Students along with non-students who live within the community. It fulfills a course requirement for SOWK 300. Throughout the survey there were questions on the topic for respondents to express their feelings on. The goal was to make sure the respondents opened up and answered the questions with their own beliefs. Specifically, I wanted the respondents of both female and male express their values/ views on sexual behaviors and the use of condoms.

Survey Research Report 3 Hypotheses, expectations, or research questions (Univariate, Bivariate, and Multivariate) Between both genders males will have more sex partners than females because of how society is based alone. It is fine for a male to have multiple sex partners and turn out to not be a bad thing. But if females go around saying they have had multiple sex partners it is bad will be look at as either slut or hoe. Both gender respondents had the same list to choose from. The values were 0 partners, between 1-3 partners, between 4-6 partners, between 7-10 partners, and more than 10 partners. I also can predict that that question that asks at what age did you become sexually active, with the five values of either under 18, between the ages 19-25, between 26-30, between 31-35, or never been sexually active, I predict that males are going to have an higher percentage in the value under 18 and females are going to have more of a higher percent in the value never been sexually active. Rationale Sexual behaviors is become something that s quite popular in the US. More people are becoming sexually active younger than the age 18 now, getting pregnant. Male and female are having sexual intercourse with one another starting at the age 16 or maybe younger. More teens that become sexually active at such a young age and getting pregnant at that age can be a big reason for the dropout rate in the school systems. From my hypotheses I predict it will show the data between both males and females and their views on sexual behaviors. It will show what type of opinions both have and in the end can eventually give some type of reasons for their acts.

Survey Research Report 12 Univariate Graphs Descriptions In the first Univariate graph it shows the percentages of the female and male genders and their attitudes towards sexual behaviors and the use of condoms. More females took the survey than male. Female s percentage at 67 and male at 33. In the second Univariate graph it gives data on the different age groups that took the survey. People between the ages took almost half with the percentage of 60. But then people who were between the ages percentages at 25, ages at 6, and ages percentage at the same with 3. In the third Univariate graph when it came to the respondents classification more sophomore s took the survey with the average of 45. But there was some freshmen with the percentage of 18, juniors with 11, seniors 10, graduate students 3, vet school students 1, and respondents who are not students 12.In the next Univariate graph it deals with the respondents region. From the data respondents in region 3 and region 4 took most of the survey. The Respondents in region 1 with 4 %, region 2 with 12%, region 3 with 49%, and region 4 with 35 %. Now in the next Univariate graph it deals with respondents who took the survey and there different GPA s. When it came to the results

Survey Research Report 13 respondents who took the survey on sexual behaviors and condom use GPA s were high. Just about over half of the respondents GPA s was between averaging at 53. But respondents with the GPA s averaged at 32, at 4, one at 4.0 with 1. For the rest that s not in school at 10. In the next graph it shows the respondents who has engaged in sexual intercourse in the last month who took the survey. There were 38 % of respondents who wasn t in any type of sexual intercourse. Other respondent either was involved in sexual intercourse between 1-3 times (24%), 4-6 times (14%), and 7-10 times (24%) in the last month. In the next graph it shows the percentages of the types of contraceptive methods respondent s uses. There are six different contraceptive respondents was able to choose from with 1. Condoms 2. Sterilization 3. Abstinence 3. Birth Control Pill 4. IUD 5. None at all. In the results 44% of respondents uses condoms, 2% uses sterilization, 14% uses abstinence, 17% uses the birth control pill, 4% uses IUD, and 19% doesn t use none at all. In the next graph shows percentages of the respondents who uses a condom or in other words that had protected sex to prevent the birth of a child. Well from the data 67 % of respondents answered yes and 33 % answered no. In the next graph the data shows the percentages of respondents who had sex in the last month without using a condom. There were five sections the respondents could choose from which was: 0, 1-3, 4-6, 7-10, and more than 10. Just about over half with 60% answered 0, 19% who answered between 1-3, 7% who answered between 4-6, 6% who answered between 7-10, and 8% who answered between more than 10. In the next graph it shows the percentages of respondent s number of sex partners they had in the last year. There were five sections the respondents could choose from: 0, 1-3, 4-6, 7-10, and more than 10. In results 15% answered 0, 59 % answered between 1-3, 9% answered between 4-6, 5% answered between 7-10, and 12 % answered more than 10. In the last graph is gives the percentages of the respondents and there ages when they became sexually

Survey Research Report 14 active. The respondents could choose between four answers: 1. Under 18, 2. Ages between 19-25, 3. Ages between 26-30, and 4. never been sexually active. The overall percentage of under 18 was 63 which was the highest. The overall percentage of respondents who chose between the ages was 24, which was the second highest. But 1% of respondents answered between the ages 26-30, and 12% of respondents who never been sexually active.

Survey Research Report 15 Bivariate Graph In this bivariate graph it shows the relationship between gender respondents who has engaged in sexual intercourse in the last month. From the data results females seem to score higher than the males in just about of the categories. The female respondents who answered zero for the number of times they engaged in sexual intercourse in the last month percentage the most with and the males with 21.05%. The respondents who engaged in sexual intercourse between 1-3 times females averaged the most again with 75% and males with 25%. When it came to the respondents who engaged in sexual intercourse between the numbers 7-10 times I m not surprised male percentage was higher was than the females, the males with 54.17% and females with 45.83%. By being the youngest girl of four older brothers males take sex more serious than females. The more sex males have the more cooler they are.

Survey Research Report 16 Bivariate Graph In this bivariate graph it shows the relationship between the gender respondents and their attitudes toward protected sex to prevent the birth of a child. Females who answered no were 69.7% and the ones that answered yes at 65.7%. Males who answered no were 30.3% and the ones that answered yes at 34.33%. More males answered yes than no and I m not surprised. It is very few males today who want kids. More females are into the whole family thing where there is the wife, husband, and child. But there are some males who believe and want to make a family with a wife and children.

Survey Research Report 17 Bivariate Graph In this bivariate graph it shows the relationship between respondents of gender and the number of sex partners they had in the last year. There is to genders male and female. Then there are five categories the gender of respondents can choose from under respondent s sex partners, 0, 1-3, 4-6, 7-10, and more than 10. From the data the top highest between the two was 86.67% of females had 0 sex partners but 83.33% of males have had more than 10 sex partners. It doesn t really surprises me that the males highest two choices were 7-10 sex partners and more than 10 sex partners. The more sex partner s males have the more they feel like a man. If males could cut down the number of sex partners the less viruses and infections people will receive.

Survey Research Report 20 Additional Analysis: More information, here is a crosstab showing genders female and males and they different contraceptive method they use. There were six values the respondents could choose from, which shows in the results: condoms, sterilization, abstinence, birth control pill, IUD, and for some none at all. It seems that in the overall total between male and female the contraceptive method that most of my respondents uses is condoms and the least is between sterilization and IUD. In results condoms came in 44%, Sterilization came in 2%, abstinence came in 14%, the birth control pill came in 17%, IUD came in 4%, and 19% of respondents doesn t use any contraceptives at all.

Survey Research Report 21 Conclusion: In conclusion what I was trying to measure ended all coming together, both of my hypotheses also ended being correct from the results in all the data. From the respondents who took the time to take my survey really gave me all their views and opinions on the topic sexual behaviors and the use of condoms. In my results it also give me the total of both genders, more females took my survey than males. In two of the bivariate tables one shows the respondents of gender and their attitudes toward the birth of a child, and the other one shows the relationship between respondents of gender and the number of sex partners they had in the last year. One of the bivariate graphs did prove my hypotheses to be correct. In the bivariate table that shows results on the gender of responses and there attitudes towards the birth of a child females took the highest with 65.7% answered yes and 34.3% of males answered yes. But in the other bivariate table that gives data on the relationship between respondents of gender and the number of sex partners they had in the last year does prove one of my hypotheses right. In the data the male s two highest values were 7-10 partners and more than 10 sex partners. My hypothesis clearly states that between both genders males will have more sex partners than females because of how society is based alone. That it is fine for a male to have multiple sex partners and turn out to not be a bad thing. But if females go around saying they have had multiple sex partners it is bad and will be looked at as either a slut or hoe. There were two multivariate graphs and one multivariate table and all gives the views also of respondents of gender by either age or by the respondents GPA s. All gave feelings of how all felt towards sexual behaviors. All together the respondent s females and males express their values and views towards the topic sexual behaviors and condom use. Respondents were very open to the issue and gave their beliefs.
