6 Helium Tanks Please note that disposal procedure, for any helium tanks brought on campus, is to remove the valve stem with a wrench and place in scrap metal when it s complete used up. Contact Environmental Health and Safety office at ext for disposal. EHS 6 Revised October 2018

7 Ink / Toner Cartridges Most inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges and toner bottles can be recycled by sending it back to the manufacturer. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Environmental Health and Safety Office at ext Place all toners / ink cartridges in a sealable plastic bag, package all cartridges in shipping box and bring the box to main loading dock (MB98). 8 Medical and Bio Hazardous Waste Some Examples of Medical and Bio Hazardous Waste These include, but are not limited to wastes generated from diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings and animals in research, or in the production and testing of biologicals. Waste Disposal Guideline Potentially infectious Materials: This includes saliva, vomit, urine, semen or vaginal secretions, skin, tissue, cell cultures and other bodily fluids containing blood Contaminated & Sharps (i.e. Syringes, scalpel blades, razer blades, etc.) Use appropriate protective equipment (Gloves, tongs, etc.) Collect in biohazard waste bags or containers Store in puncture/leak proof containers and contact EHS for collection and disposal information Use appropriate protective equipment (Gloves, tongs, etc.) Deposit in puncture resistant red sharps containers, or Deposit in sharps collection boxes located near the main security post in each building. 9 Mercury Containing Equipment Some Examples of Equipment Containing Mercury Mercury thermometers, thermostats, barometers, manometers, temperature and pressure gauges, mercury switches, etc. Any equipment containing mercury cannot be thrown in the trash. 12 Used Chemicals and Hazardous Materials Some Examples of Used Chemicals Cleaning chemicals, paints, oils, lab chemicals, etc. Report Spills Immediately to EHS Office at ext ON CAMPUS Call Public Safety to report any injuries or exposures. Isolate area of spill/leak. Do not attempt to clean. Alert others in immediate area. If known, note any characteristics about the spilled material.
