Inspire Therapy for Sleep Apnea
Take Heart. If you have OSA, you re not alone. More than 18 million Americans are estimated to have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA occurs when the tongue and other soft tissues collapse during sleep, causing an obstruction in the airway. This obstruction prevents oxygen from going to the brain. The brain senses a lack of oxygen and wakes the body up just long enough to take a breath. The cycle of obstruction and waking can happen hundreds of times per night, leading to an unrested night of sleep. When left untreated, OSA can lead to devastating effects on heart and brain health, impair quality of life, and increase both motor vehicle and occupational accident risk. Therefore, it is important to find a long-term treatment option.
Take Action. Choose a treatment that is right for you. OSA treatment options can vary from lifestyle changes, including losing weight, changing the position you sleep in, or exercising regularly, to major anatomy altering surgeries, where certain bones or soft tissues are removed to open the airway. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is usually prescribed as the first treatment option for OSA. Unfortunately, studies show up to 50% of people are unable to use or get consistent benefit from CPAP. For some of these patients, Inspire therapy may be the solution they ve been looking for.
Take Comfort. Inspire therapy can help. Inspire therapy is a breakthrough obstructive sleep apnea treatment option that doesn t involve a mask or hose. While you are sleeping, Inspire monitors every breath you take. Based on your unique breathing patterns, the system delivers mild stimulation to key airway muscles, allowing the airway to remain open during sleep. The Inspire system is implanted during a short outpatient procedure. Most patients return home the same day, and can resume non-strenuous activities within a few days or as directed by their doctor.
The Inspire system consists of a breathing sensor lead and a stimulation lead, powered by a small battery. Using the handheld Inspire sleep remote, simply turn the therapy on before bed and off when you wake up. Inspire Sleep Remote
Feel Confident. Inspire therapy is safe, clinically proven and FDA-approved. The safety and effectiveness of Inspire therapy has been published in 37 peer reviewed publications. Studies have found patients using Inspire therapy have significant and sustained reductions in sleep apnea events, increased daytime activity levels, and reduced daytime sleepiness. Additionally, bed partners of Inspire therapy users report a significant decrease in snoring. 78% reduction in sleep apnea events/hour 1 82% reduction in bed partner reported snoring 2 A full list of benefits and risks can be found at 1. 7 Rest Easy. There are pathways to insurance coverage for Inspire therapy. Commercial Insurance If you meet the criteria for Inspire, the Inspire trained doctor will work to gain written insurance approval before your Inspire procedure. This process can take anywhere from a few days to several months. Each insurance plan is different, but patients are typically responsible for any unmet deductible for the year, along with any other required copay or coinsurance fee. Staying involved during this process will help with your insurance approval. Medicare Medicare is reimbursing the cost of Inspire therapy based on medical necessity in many geographies across the United States. An Inspire trained physician can discuss Medicare coverage in your area during an initial consultation. Veterans Inspire therapy is on the Federal Supply Schedule, making it available for veterans, active military members, and their beneficiaries at select VA and military hospitals across the United States. Talk to an Inspire therapy doctor for more information on insurance coverage for Inspire therapy.
Wake Up Inspired. Download the Inspire Patient Guide App for more information on Inspire therapy. Text the word INSPIRESLEEP to or visit app.inspiresleep.com. Inspire therapy is available at over 100 leading medical centers across the United States. Visit InspireSleep.com to find a doctor in your area. Inspire therapy is for people who: Have been diagnosed with moderate to severe OSA (AHI between 15 and 65) Struggle with or cannot get consistent benefit from CPAP treatment Are not significantly overweight Talk to your doctor about risks, benefits and expectations associated with Inspire therapy. Risks associated with the surgical implant procedure are low but may include infection and temporary tongue weakness. Most patients acclimate well to the presence of the Inspire system and to the therapeutic stimulation. Some patients may require post implant adjustments to the system s settings in order to improve effectiveness and ease acclimatization.
