On weekends, holidays (New Year s Day, Mardi Gras, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas) and the day before the holidays, it is illegal to serve or sell alcohol between the hours of 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.. All customers must be out of the licensed establishment within 30 minutes of the start of the prohibited hours. In, there are no laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol on Sundays. Parish of Iberia does have laws governing noise created by businesses. Generally speaking, you should not create a level of noise that disturbs your neighbors. Please review with your manager or owner what is and is not allowed at your particular location. Leaving premises with alcohol In the Parish of Iberia, there are no laws prohibiting the possession of an open container of alcohol or the public consumption of alcohol. Parish of Iberia does require that persons who work with alcoholic beverages to get an ABO or Bar card. The Parish of Iberia does not require any form of local server training. The new state law that requires servers to attend this course, also says that servers do not have to attend local server training courses if they participate in a state- approved course. By 2000, you will have to participate in state- approved courses. Other Regulations In the Parish of Iberia, the legal age to enter a business where alcohol is the main thing sold is 21. In the Parish of Iberia, it is illegal to employ anyone under the age of 18 to handle or work with alcohol. In the Parish of Iberia, you must be 21 years old to play pool or billiards in a licensed establishment. City of Jeanerette In the City of Jeanerette, it is illegal to sell or serve alcohol between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday, Sunday or legal holidays. There are no restrictions to hours of operation on New Year s Day and Christmas. Businesses with a Class A On- premise consumption license must close within 30 minutes of the start of the prohibited times. In the City of Jeanerette, there are no laws prohibiting sale of alcohol on Sunday. The City of Jeanerette does have laws governing noise created by businesses. All customers must be off the premise within 30 minutes of the start of the prohibited times. Restaurants, grocery stores, drugstores and other such businesses may remain open, however all alcohol must be kept locked up in a cabinet or cupboard during the prohibited times. In the Village of Loreauville, there are no laws prohibiting sale of alcohol on Sunday. The Village of Loreauville does have laws governing noise created by businesses. Leaving premises with alcohol In the Village of Loreauville, it is illegal to consume alcoholic beverages on the public streets or sidewalks except at a fair or festival hosted by a non- profit organization that has been duly exempted by the village Board of Aldermen. The Village of Loreauville does not require any form of alcohol server permit, Bar Card or ABO Card. The Village of Loreauville does not require any form of local server training. The new state law that requires servers to attend this course also says that servers do not have to attend local server training courses if they participate in a state- approved course. By 2000, you will have to participate in state- approved courses. City of New Iberia In the City of New Iberia, it shall be unlawful to sell any alcoholic beverages between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. of any Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, nor between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. of any Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday. Holidays are defined to include the day preceding the day of the holiday: New Year's Day, Mardi Gras, July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas. In the City of New Iberia, there are no laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol on Sundays. The City of New Iberia does have laws governing noise created by businesses. 6 Responsible Alcohol Service for within 300 feet or less of a parish or municipal playground or of a building used exclusively as a regular church or synagogue, public library, school, full- time day care center, or a correctional facility housing inmates, including but not limited to a halfway house. There are exceptions to this law such as a hotel or fraternal organization. Please review with your manager or owner what is and is not allowed at your particular location. Leaving premises with alcohol/open container laws No person shall consume alcoholic beverages on the public streets and sidewalks of the city, with two exceptions: (1) There shall be exempted from this section the immediate area of any special event when a permit has been granted by the city. For purposes of this section, "special event" shall be defined as a cultural event, historical event, civic event, school event, religious event, family oriented event, nonprofit event or fair or festival. (2) Sidewalk permits. For a period of one year, sidewalk permits would be issued to either bars or restaurants to allow for open container/consumption of alcoholic beverages on permitted sidewalks directly in front of property licensed establishments. The boundaries must be marked using signage and/or a painted line. Note: A 36- inch clear path of travel must be maintained on these permitted sidewalks to allow for pedestrian traffic. Means of egress shall also remain clear at all entrances and/or exits. Employees hired to serve or dispense alcoholic beverages shall be required to secure a certificate of qualification prior to the beginning of their employment. Each applicant for a certificate of qualification to dispense or serve alcoholic beverages shall present to the chief of police a photograph of himself of the size designated by the chief of police and a medical certificate from the parish health unit stating that the applicant does not have any communicable disease, and shall be fingerprinted by the police department and shall furnish a copy of his birth certificate. The state law that requires servers to attend this course also says that servers do not have to attend local server training courses if they participate in a state- approved course.
