2 Methodology Survey administration: February of Sampling strategy: schools and classrooms were selected to generate statistically representative countylevel estimates. Final sample size was 1,260 across grades 6 through 12. The margin of error is less than 4.8 percentage points for M.S. prevalence rates and 5.9 percentage points for H.S. prevalence rates.

6 Key Findings With overall prevalence rates of 39.4% for lifetime use and 20.2% for past-30-day use, alcohol is the most commonly used drug among Santa Rosa County students. After alcohol, students reported marijuana (20.8% lifetime and 9.7% past-30-day) and cigarettes (21.6% lifetime and 6.8% past-30-day) as the most commonly used drugs. 21.1% of high school students reported blacking out after drinking on one or more occasions. For other ATOD categories, past-30-day prevalence ranges from 3.8% for prescription pain relievers to 0.1% for cocaine.

19 Key Findings In Santa Rosa County, past-30-day alcohol use was reported at 20.2%, compared to 20.5% across the statewide sample. Binge drinking rates continued to decrease, from 17.8% in 2008 to 12.6% in 2012, and 10.2% in After increasing from 2006 to 2010 (from 9.4% to 13.6%), past-30-day marijuana use decreased to 9.7% in % of high school students have ridden in a car with a driver who was under the influence of alcohol, and 18.9% have ridden with a driver under the influence of marijuana.

27 Key Findings In Santa Rosa County, 8.4% of surveyed students reported the use of any illicit drug other than marijuana in the past 30 days, compared to 7.5% across the statewide sample. Past-30-day inhalant use decreased from 2.8% in 2012 to 1.5% in Past-30-day Rx pain reliever use was reported at 3.8%, compared to 2.1% across the statewide survey. Among middle school students, 2.2% reported the use of inhalants in the past 30 days, a rate higher than any other illicit drug (except marijuana).

32 Key Findings In Santa Rosa County, prevalence rates for Being Arrested (2.1%), Attempting to Steal a Vehicle (1.1%) and Taking a Handgun to School (0.5%) are 3.0% or less. Higher prevalence rates were reported for Carrying a Handgun (7.6%) and Getting Suspended (6.2%). In Santa Rosa County, 29.1% of students have been socially bullied, 12.7% have been physically bullied, and 8.5% have been cyber bullied. 3.3% of students have belonged to a gang, and 3.2% of high school students are currently gang members.

40 Key Findings Protective factor prevalence rates opportunities for improvement: Middle school students reported the lowest rates of protection for the School Opportunities for Prosocial Involvement (48%) and School Rewards for Prosocial Involvement (54%) scales. High school students reported the lowest rates of protection for the Family Rewards for Prosocial Involvement (55%) and Family Opportunities for Prosocial Involvement (57%) scales.
