1 Common ICD-10-CA Codes Used in Continuing Care, Types of Care
2 Our Vision Better data. Better decisions. Healthier Canadians. Our Mandate To lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive and integrated health information that enables sound policy and effective health system management that improve health and health care. Our Values Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, Excellence, Innovation
3 This ICD-10-CA pick-list for the Continuing Care Reporting System (CCRS) has been developed by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). It provides a range of ICD-10-CA codes and three-character category codes that were extracted from the full ICD-10-CA classification to help clinicians code diseases and other health conditions that frequently occur in continuing care. This pick-list can be used to code data element I3 in the RAI-MDS 2.0 assessment instrument. There were two main reasons for developing this pick-list: 1. Diagnosis coding in the continuing care environment does not need the same level of detail as that in acute and other hospital-based settings; and 2. Continuing care facilities do not necessarily have the expertise, in the form of health records professionals, to code diagnoses to the level of detail required in other CIHI reporting systems (such as the Discharge Abstract Database or National Ambulatory Care Reporting System). The pick-list is made up of An alphabetical index (extracted from the alphabetical index in the full ICD-10-CA classification). The CCRS pick-list is designed to cover the majority of conditions and diseases that clinicians come across in continuing care, but it is not a completely exhaustive list of all diagnoses or health conditions that may occur. CIHI recommends that clinicians review the pick-list first and then, if they are unable to find a suitable code, refer to the full ICD-10-CA Folio product to find the appropriate code. CCRS will accept any valid ICD-10-CA code, including those not on the pick-list. This product is based on the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), World Health Organization, All rights reserved.
