1 ewellness magazine 3 Tips to Shape up for summer We are nearing the time when summer holidays, relaxing retreats and vacations are getting booked up. We all deserve time away from the daily routine to relax and rejuvenate! There is a phrase that states summer bodies are made in the winter, and there may be a little truth in this, our bodies need time to adjust to nutrition and fitness related changes that we engage in, not just for better health but to also look good for the holiday season too. If you missed out on the winter time training, not to worry, there are Health always small yet significant adjustments that you can make from now in preparation for your vacation or just to nudge you back into a daily fitness focused routine! Here are 3 smart tips to help kick start you to shape up for the summer! 1. Food first! Nutrition should always take a front line because your body needs all those essential vitamins and minerals to work at its absolute best. If your food focus has not been great then begin now for those all important changes that you need to feel less bloated and more shaped up! Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
2 Start your day with a good breakfast ideally with pro-biotic yogurt and some fresh fruit to help encourage the good bacteria in your gut to do their job. Prep your meals in advance if needed, or do some forward planning on your lunch and dinner times to make sure you include lots of fresh or lightly steamed veg. Cut back on the late night snacks and soda-type drinks. Hydrate yourself with water and if you do snack- make it on some fruit instead like an apple with a little peanut butter on the side, a healthy and nutritious snack! Get creative with your meals, add lots of color with fresh fruit and veg. Make it interesting for your stomach and take the time to chew your food well! 2. Get moving! Life is about movement, even if it s a dance around your living room to your favorite music or a refreshing walk outdoors picking up some extra vitamin D through the rays of the sun and getting some fresh air into your lungs! Gym based exercise isn t the be all and end all- find what makes you feel like you really want to move! Try to incorporate some weight based exercise into your routine to build up your muscle mass- more muscles equal increased tone, shape, and definition. Body weight exercises like squats and press ups are cool too and can be done at home. Just 20 minutes a day can make all the difference to leave you feeling more body confident, both inside and outside!
3 3. Spend some extra time taking care of you! Try to add some time into your day for a little self-care! Self-care shifts some focus back to you so you can replenish and energize, this may be having a much-needed neck and shoulder massage, a chilled out bath with relaxing essential oils, listening to your favorite album, or picking up a great book to start reading through. There is time for work, and time for play! Try to fuse both into your day, even if it just begins with a 20 minute reset for some self-care time.
