3 What is the? The is a hub for your health data. All of the data gathered from your Nokia Health products will sync to this app. Requirements Internet access is required to download the. We recommend using the on a device connected to the Internet to enjoy all of the features. Smartphone or device An Android or ios device (with operational Wi-Fi or 3G/4G/LTE) is required to: Install and run the Nokia Health Mate App on an ios device (you need ios 8 or above). Install and run the Nokia Health Mate App on an Android device (you need Android 4 or above). We recommend that you use the latest available version of the to have all the latest features available. 4 Installing the app To install the app on an Android device, open the Google Play Store and search for Nokia Health Mate. To install the app on an ios device, open the Apple App Store and search for Nokia Health Mate. You will have the option to download the app and it will automatically install on your mobile device. Accounts When you first open the Health Mate app, you will be prompted to create an account or log in. If you don t already have an account, select the Get Started option. If you have an account, simply select the Log in option to sign into the app with your address and password. 1. Select Get Started. EN - 4

5 2. If you have a Nokia device, you can select the Start Installing My Device button and the app will guide you through both the device installation and account creation process. If you do not yet have a Nokia device, select the Start with my phone only option. 3. Enter your address, create a password, read and agree to the Nokia Terms and Privacy Policy, and select Create. After creating an account, you will be asked to set up a user profile. A user profile is where all of your personal health data will be stored. You can have several user profiles in a single account. As an example, you may want to have one user per family member. See Adding Users on page 52 for adding more users to your account. EN - 5

6 4. Enter your first and last name, sex, and date of birth. 5. Enter your height and weight. You will be welcomed to the Health Mate app and offered a tour to learn your way around the app. EN - 6

7 App Navigation The Health Mate app is divided into 5 main sections which are represented by icons on the bottom of the app. Starting from the bottom left-hand side of the app they are: Timeline Dashboard Wellness Programs My Devices Profile (Settings) The Timeline The Timeline is the default screen of the Health Mate app. When the app is opened, you will be taken to the Timeline. From here you can see: your latest measurements and activity and sleep data Badges and Insights based on your progress information about new features, invitation to upgrade device firmware, as well as see Leaderboard interactions Tapping on any of the measurements will take you to the Dashboard section of the app for that specific type of measurement. For instance, tapping on the weight result below will show Weight section of the Dashboard which includes your full weight measurement history. See below: EN - 7

8 If you don t want to see any entry in your Timeline, you can remove it. Notes: Removing an entry for a measurement from your Timeline will permanently delete the measurement from your account It is not possible to delete entries for steps To remove a Timeline entry, simply swipe to the left over the entry and select the trash icon as shown below: You can also share measurements that appear in the Timeline with friends or family members. To share a measurement: 1. Swipe left over the measurement. 2. Select the Share icon. EN - 8

9 3. Choose to attach a selfie or send only the measurement. You will be presented with several options on how to share the measurment such as or SMS (Any applicable SMS fees will be charged). Dashboard The Dashboard of the app shows the entire history of your measurements by type. For example, you can see all of your weight or step data. From the Dashboard you can also view the measurements of family members on your account by tapping on their names from the top of the screen. To see the measurement history, tap on the widget for the desired measurement type. The measurement types are as follows: Activity/Steps Sleep EN - 9

10 Body Composition Weight Body Fat BMI Muscle Mass Water Bone Mass Heart Rate Blood Pressure Temperature Activity / Steps Whether you use one of our activity trackers, the Health Mate app s in-app step tracker, or you manually enter activity data, you will have access to the Activity widget. When selecting the Activity widget, you will be shown your activity for the current day. Your activity for the current day will be shown in the form of a graph. To move between days on Activity widget, simply swipe left or right on any part of the widget. As you scroll down, you can see the following information for the given day: your steps your percentage to your step goal your distance calories burned (from exercise as well as the total calories which includes calories burned at rest, or basal metabolic rate*) your heart rate (if using a Nokia activity tracker which measures heart rate) EN - 10

11 *Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is calculated by using your profile information which includes your age, gender, height, and weight. You can also select the Week or Month tabs on the bottom of the Activty widget, to see a breakdown of your activty data for the entire month or week, including how many days in the week or month you reached your step goal and even how you did on weekdays versus the weekend. The graph shown on Activity widget gives a breakdown of your activty in 30-minute intervals. These intervals are represented by bars. The taller bars, the more activity was done during the interval. Tapping on any more gives more detailed information about the interval. EN - 11

12 Calories burned, as wella s steps, are shown for the 30-minute interval just above the bar. Activity Recognition When using a Nokia activity tracker, the Health Mate app can automatically detect more than 10 activites, but can learn to detect even more as you use it. After your activity tracker syncs with the Health Mate app, any recognized activities, such as running, are automatically added to your Activity widget. If an activity is not recognized, however, you will receive an entry in your Timeline letting you know that an unrecognized activity was detected, along with its duration. By tapping on the New Activity entry, you will be taken to a page where you can tell the Health Mate app what activity you performed. 1. Tap the X icon to change the Activity and search through the list of support activites. EN - 12

13 2. Scroll through the pages of activities by swiping left or right until you find the correct activity. If the activity is not supported, select Other. 3. Choose the intensity of your activity using the slider bar and then select OK to save. From here, you can also choose to manually edit the during, start time, and calories burned by tapping on each. If you prefer, you can also choose to delete the activty. By doing this, the Health Mate app can start to learn your activities and automatically recognize them in the future. Note: Calories are automatically calculated by default using your profile information which includes your age, gender, height, and weight. EN - 13

14 Manually Adding Activities If you don t have a Nokia activity tracker, or you weren t wearing it during your activity, you can manually enter the activity in the Health Mate app directly from the Activity widget. 1. Scroll down to the bottom of the Activity widget and select Add Activity. 2. Scroll through the pages of activities by swiping left or right until you find the correct activity. If the activity is not supported, select Other. EN - 14

15 3. Choose the intensity of your activity using the slider bar. You can then select the duration, start date and time, distance, and calories and then select OK to save. 4. The activity will now appear on the bottom of your Activity widget, on the corresponding day, under the Day s activity detail section. Note: Calories are automatically calculated by default using your profile information which includes your age, gender, height, and weight. You can, however, manually edit them by tapping on Calories. 16 Step Goal You can set a step goal in the Activity widget of the Health Mate app to help you achieve your fitness goals. To set a step goal: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the Activity widget. 2. Select Step goal. EN - 16

17 3. Drag the bubble with the step goal up or down to set a step goal and select OK. In-App Step Tracker If you don t own a Nokia activity tracker, you can still use the Health Mate app to track your steps. The Health Mate app s in-app step tracker uses the motion sensor from your Android or ios device to gather step data. On Android, step data comes from Google Fit or Samsung Health On ios, step data comes from Apple Health To enable the Health Mate app s step tracker: 1. From the Dashboard of the Health Mate app, select Start Tracking Your Activity. EN - 17

18 2. Select Activate Now. 3. Choose a service from which to import steps (Android). 4. Ensure that Steps is enabled and then select Allow (ios). EN - 18

19 Android On Android you can choose one of three services from which steps can be imported: Phone steps sensor - uses the motion chip on your mobile device to track your steps Google Fitness API - uses the Google Fit app on your mobile device to track your steps Samsung Health API (Samsung devices only) - uses the Samsung Health app to track your steps Note: When using Google Fit the Health Mate app collects the number of steps, and that these steps have to be detected by Google Fit. The Health Mate app will not retrieve steps coming from another brand of trackers, even if they were synced with Google Fit. If you notice any inconsistencies between the number of steps displayed in Google Fit and the number of steps displayed in the, we advise that you reach out to Google directly as the data is coming from them. At any time, you can disable the in-app step tracker by simplying logging out of the Health Mate app and logging back in. When you log back in, the step tracker will be disabled. Sleep If you use one of our activity trackers or sleep sensors, you will have access to the Sleep widget where you can see all of your sleep data. Note: The sleep metrics available in the Sleep widget depends on which activity tracker or sleep sensor you are using. 20 Sleep data When selecting the Sleep widget, you will be shown an overview for your sleep from the previous night. The sleep overview shows a graph with your sleep data. From the top of the screen you can cycle between different days to see a different night s sleep data. From here you can also see your percentage toward your sleep goal for the night. Scrolling down from the sleep overview will reveal a breakdown of your night split into different sleep phases (REM sleep information availability depends on which activity tracker or sleep sensor you are using as described in the table above). Scrolling down further you will see your Heart Rate for the night (Heart Rate availability depends on which activity tracker or sleep sensor you are using as described in the table above). EN - 20

21 Note: If you use a Nokia Sleep, you will see a detailed Sleep Score below the graph of your night (the Sleep Score is calculated on the basis of several criteria, such as sleep length, the time taken to fall asleep, and the regularity of the time at which you get up and go to bed). Heart Rate and Snoring details are available below the Sleep Score. EN - 21

22 You can use your finger to press and hold over the sleep graph to get detailed information for a specific sleep period. You can also use your finger to press and hold over the heart rate graph to get detailed information for a specific period. In this example, you can see that for the given period, the average heart rate was 64bpm, the lowest heart rate was 60bpm, and the highest heart rate was 69bpm. From the bottom of the sleep overview, you can view your sleep data by week or month. You will also see the number of times you reached your sleep goal for the week or month. EN - 22

23 Sleep Goal The Health Mate app allows you to enter a sleep goal to help you get the right amount of sleep each night. To enable or change your sleep goal: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the Sleep widget. EN - 23

24 2. Select Set Your Goal. 3. Drag the circle to set or change your sleep goal and then select OK from the top righthand side of the screen. EN - 24

25 Viewing data from other activity trackers or sleep sensors If you have more than one Nokia device that measures sleep, you can view the data from each device individually. To do this: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the Sleep widget. 2. Under Data Source select the device for which you wish to see data. When Auto is select, data from the sleep device which provides the most metrics will be displayed. Weight, Body Fat, BMI, Muscle Mass, Water, and Bone Mass If you use a Nokia scale, you will have access to the Weight widget where you can see all of your weight and body composition data. Even if you don t have a Nokia scale, you will be able to manually enter weight measurements in the Health Mate app. Note: The weight and body composition metrics available in the Weight widget depend on which scale you are using. Below you will find a break-down of the metrics you will receive based on the scale you use: EN - 25

You will then be shown your weight and body composition data as graphs. EN - 26

27 The first graph shown in the Weight widget is the Weight graph. The graph shows all of your weight measurements for the current year. You can scroll left or right on the year to change the year or to see your complete weight history. Below the year, you will see your change in weight from the previous year. The dotted line to the right of Goal shows your weight goal. The blue shaded area shows the normality range based on your age, gender, and height. The solid blue line shows your weight trend. You can view your data by month, quarter, or year by tapping on the desired period below the graph. You can enable or disable the normality zone, as well as whether or not your weight goal is displayed on the graph, by tapping on the icon on the top right-hand side of the screen. Scrolling down on this page will show the graphs for body composition metrics, such as body fat and muscle mass, as shown on the image to the right. Tapping on any part of the graph will show the measurement for that period. EN - 27

28 You can also view a list of measurements by doing the following: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the weight graph screen. 2. Select Show Measurement Table. EN - 28

29 You will now be shown a list of all your measurements. Tapping on a measurement from the graph or the measurement list will give you a full breakdown of the measurement. All of your body composition metrics will be shown here. By scrolling further, you will reach the Notes section where you can add comments for any given measurement. EN - 29

30 Setting a weight goal As with activity and sleep, the Health Mate app allows you to set a target weight goal, as well as the rate at which you would like to reach the goal. To set a weight goal: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the weight graph screen. EN - 30

31 2. Select Set Your Target Weight. 3. Drag the circle to set or change your weight goal and then select Next from the top right-hand side of the screen. Heart rate The Health Mate app records heart rate measurements taken by Nokia scales, blood pressure monitors, sleep sensors, and activity trackers which measure heart rate. You can also take heart rate measurements using the camera of your mobile device. Refer to Manually Adding Measurements on page 41 for more information. The Heart Rate widget will appear differently, depending on what Nokia devices you have on your account. this icon will appear if you have taken an individual measurement with a Nokia blood pressure monitor, a Nokia scale which gives heart rate measurements, or used manual EN - 31

32 heart rate measurement feature in the Health Mate app. this icon will appear if you have a Nokia device which measures heart rate thoughout the day. this icon will appear if you have a Nokia device which measures heart rate thoughout the night. the Sleep widget icon can also be used to view your heart rate while sleeping. 33 To view the heart rate data for an individual heart rate measurement: 1. Tap on the Heart widget in the Dashboard or Timeline. -- You will be shown your heart rate as well as the range that it is in. -- You can learn more about heart rate ranges by tapping on the arrow to the right of the range. -- To scroll between days, swipe left or right on the top of the screen. -- You can add comments to your heart rate measurement in the Notes section. To view the average heart rate data while you are awake: 1. Tap on the Heart (Awake Avg.) widget in the Dashboard. EN - 33

34 You will be shown a graph with your heart rate for the day. You can scroll left or right on the top of the graph to change the day. You can also change the view from Day, Week, or Month from the bottom of the screen. You can also use your finger to press and hold over the heart rate graph to get detailed information for a specific period. In this image, you can see that for the given period, the average heart rate was 96bpm, the lowest heart rate was 91bpm, and the highest heart rate was 100bpm. Scrolling down further will reveal more information about your heart rate for the day: Under Heart Rate Zones you can see how long your heart rate was in each of the ranges, Peak, Intense, Moderate, or Light. A description of each range is available by EN - 34

35 selecting the More button. The Additonal measurement section shows any other heart rate measurement taken on that given day from a Nokia scale, blood pressure monitor, or manually via the Health Mate app. To view the average heart rate data while you are asleep, scroll to the bottom of your sleep overview. Refer to Sleep on page 19 for more information. Blood Pressure If you use a Nokia blood pressure monitor, you will have access to the Blood Pressure widget where you can see all of your blood pressure measurements. If you don t have a Nokia blood pressure monitor, you will be able to manually enter blood measurements in the Health Mate app. To view your heart rate measurements, select Blood Pressure from the Dashboard. 36 You will then be shown a graph with your blood pressure measurements: The blood pressure graph shows your blood pressure measurements for the whole month. You can swipe left or right at the top of the screen to switch between months. Below the graph you will see the maximum and minimum systolic and diastolic measurements for the month. You can change the period of data shown from Month to Week at the bottom of the screen. Tapping on any measurement on the graph will show you the measurement for that day, as shown on the image to the right. EN - 36

37 The measurements on the graphs are color coded. The classification of blood pressure measurements can be seen below: You can also view a list of measurements by doing the following: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the blood pressure graph screen. EN - 37

38 2. Select Show Measurement Table. You will now be shown a list of all of your measurements. EN - 38

39 Tapping on a measurement from the graph or the measurement list will give you a full breakdown of the measurement. Your systolic, diastolic, and heart rate measurements will be shown here. You can also add comments to your measurement in the Notes section. Sharing Blood Pressure Measurements with your Doctor You can share your blood pressure with your doctor via directly from the Health Mate app. To do this: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the blood pressure graph screen. EN - 39

40 2. Select Share with my doctor. 3. Enter your doctor s address, choose the period of time for the measurements you wish to send, and select Confirm. Your client will open with the selected measurements in the body. From the Share with my doctor screen, you can also have the Health Mate app remind you to send your measurements by selecting the Periodical Sending Reminder button. Temperature If you have a Thermo linked to your Health Mate account, or you manually entered a temperature measurement in the Thermo app, the last measurement taken will appear in the Dashboard under Body Temperature. 41 Tapping on the measurement will launch the Thermo app where you can get more details about the measurement and see your measurement history. Manually Adding Measurements If you don t have a Nokia product, you can manually add certain measurements to the Health Mate app. To manually add a measurement: 1. Select the + icon from the top right-hand side of the Timeline or Dashboard. 2. Select the type of measurement that you would like to add. Notes: Manual heart rate measurements are taken by placing your finger on the back side of your phone s camera. When selecting Heart Rate the app will instruct you on how to take the measurement. Food can be added to the Health Mate app if you have an account with MyFitnessPal. You can visit to sign up for a MyFitnessPal account. EN - 41

42 Sharing or Deleting Measurements In the Health Mate app you can share or delete measurements. To share or delete a measurement: 1. Select the icon on the top right-hand side of the measurement you wish to share or delete. 2. From here you will have the option to share or delete the measurement. Messages can be shared via or SMS (any applicable SMS fees will be charged). Please note that certain measurement types, such as activity and sleep, cannot be deleted. EN - 42

43 Wellness Programs The Wellness Programs section of the Health Mate app allows users to browse and join wellness programs with different focuses such as weight, sleep, and heart health. You can also participate in the Leaderboard from this section of the app, which lets you compete between friends and family to see who can get the most steps each week. An example of a Wellness Program available in the Health Mate app. Some of these programs will rotate and new ones may be added throughout the year. From this section of the app you can browse though the various programs, get more information about them, and join them. Leaderboard The Leaderboard feature of the Health Mate app allows users to compete friends and family in a weekly step challenge. The step data is gathered from your Nokia activity tracker or using your mobile device s motion chip (on supported models). You can activate the Leaderboard directly from the Wellness Programs screen. EN - 43

44 From the Leaderboard you can see the weekly step count for all the friends or family members that you have invited to compete against. The Leaderboard challenge runs from Monday to Sunday. Every Monday the step count will reset to 0 for all users and a new challenge begins. Inviting Users to the Leaderboard You can invite friends and family by tapping the icon on the top right-hand corner of the Wellness Programs section of the app. You will now be presented with the option to invite users. You will be prompted to choose how you would like to invite the user (via or SMS). Any applicable SMS fees will be charged. The user will be sent a special link that they can use to join your Leaderboard. After joining your Leaderboard, you will also appear in their Leaderboard. EN - 44

45 Note: If the user does not have a Health Mate account they will be prompted to create one after following the link. Removing a user from the Leaderboard If for any reason you choose to remove a user from your Leaderboard, follow these steps: 1. Tap the icon on the top right-hand corner of the Wellness Programs section of the app. 2. Tap Select User to Remove. 3. Select the trash icon of the user you wish to remove and confirm. The user will no longer appear in your Leaderboard. EN - 45

46 Interacting with Leaderboard Users Once a user is on your Leadboard, you can chat with them, cheer them on, or even taunt them. To chat with, cheer, or taunt a user, tap on their icon on the Leaderboard. 1. To chat, use the message box on the bottom of the screen and type your message. 2. To cheer, tap the thumbs up icon on the bottom right-hand side of the screen. 3. To taunt, tap the thumbs down icon on the bottom left-hand side of the screen. The user will see your message, cheer, or taunt in the Health Mate. Devices The Devices section of the Health Mate app allows you to install new Nokia products as well as manage those you already own. Installing Devices You can install new products by selecting the + symbol from the top right-hand side of the Devices page. EN - 46

47 You will be presented with a list of devices and you can select the one you wish to install. The Health Mate app will guide you through the installation process. Once installed, your device will be linked to your Health Mate account. Certain devices, such as activity trackers, must be linked to a user on your account. During the installation of the product, you will be asked to select the user to which you wish to link the product. Managing Devices You can obtain information about your Nokia products, as well as manage their settings, from the Devices section. Select a product and you will be shown information such as: Serial number Software Version Date that the product last synced to your account You can also obtain help for your product from this page. Depending on the product, you will have different options that you can manage such as alarms, brightness settings, and screen customizations. More information about these options can be found in the user guide for each product, which is available on our Help Center. You can also update the software of your product by selecting Check for Updates or Update button. EN - 47

48 Removing a Device If you wish to remove a device from your account, select it from the Devices section of the Health Mate app, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select Dissociate This Product. The product will no longer be linked to your account. Notes: Dissociating a product from your account does not delete any data on that product. To delete the data from your product, a factory reset of the product must be performed. Instructions for performing a factory reset can be found on our Help Center. Nokia scales can be linked to multiple acounts. As such, when selecting the Dissociate This Product option, you will be asked if you wish to remove the scale from your account or from all other accounts. Profile (Settings) The Profile section of the Health Mate app allows you to view information about users on your account. You can create and delete users as well as change account, user, and app settings. User When opening the Profile section of the app, you will be shown data for the main (default) user of your account. This includes: the date you created your user. the number of weight measurements you have. your total step count and distance since you created your user. your best day in terms of highest step count. the number of days on which you took more than 10,000 steps. 49 Note: This information is available only for the main (default) user of the Health Mate app. The main user of the app is the user you selected when you last logged into the app. If you wish to change the main user of the app, log out of the app and log back in. You will be prompted to select a user and this will become the main, or default, user. Profile You can edit your profile information by tapping on your initials or photo just above the user information. From here, you can change things like: name birthdate gender height whether you wish to use Athlete mode (Athletes generally have a different body type which requires a specific body composition algorithm for metrics such as fat mass. If you work out more than 8 hours per week and have a resting heart rate below 60 bpm, you may need to enable Athlete mode) Note: You can also edit the profile information for other users on your account by scrolling down to the bottom of the Profile section of the app and tapping on the desired user. My Badges The Health Mate app gives you bades for unlocking certain achievements. These achievements are earned for: distance steps elevation You will receive a notification in the app for each badge you unlock. EN - 49

50 You can switch between the categories of badges from the bottom of the screen by selecting Distance, Steps, or Elevation. My Goals The Health Mate app allows you to set goals for different areas of your health such as weight, daily steps, and sleep. These goals can be set from the corresponding section of the Dashboard, but can be seen from the My Goals section of the Profile screen. Reminders You can set reminders in the Health Mate app so that you remember to weigh yourself, take your blood pressure, or take other measurements. To set a reminder simply tap on the Set a new reminder button from the Profile section of the app and select the type of reminder you wish to set. You will then be prompted to select the type of reminder you would like as well as the frequency. When the times comes, the Health Mate app will send you a push notification with the reminder. Be sure that you allow notifications from the Health Mate app on your mobile device in order to receive these reminders. EN - 50

51 You can swipe right and left on each category, such as Weight and Activity to view the various reminder options. The reminder that you set will now appear in the Profile section of the app. Apps The Health Mate app can be linked with partner apps so that you can share data between apps. You can link partners to the Health Mate app from the Apps section of the Profile screen. Any app which you have already linked will show a over it in green. Note: While the partners listed in the Apps section are those which send data to Health Mate app, your account can be linked to many other partners to which we send data. EN - 51

52 Family From the Family portion of the Profile section, you can add and remove users on your Health Mate account. Adding Users To add a user to your Health Mate account: 1. Tap the Add button from the Family section. 2. Fill out the user information and select Next. 3. Enter the user s height and weight, select Next, and the user will now be created. EN - 52

53 Deleting Users If you wish to remove a user from your Health Mate account, select the user from the Family section of the app, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select Delete This User. Note: Deleting a user will delete all of their data. Settings The app Settings allow you to make changes to your Health Mate account as well as access the Help section of the app. You can access Settings by selecting the gear icon on the top right-hand side of the Profile section of the app. You will be presented with the following account options: EN - 53

54 Edit Profile Edit your profile as explained in the Profile section of this guide.
