Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Achieve universal primary education Promote gender equality and empower women Reduce child mortality Improve maternal health Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Ensure environmental sustainability Develop a global partnership for development What are the MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS? Goal 1. Eradicate extreme poverty & hunger Halve the proportion of people living in extreme poverty between Halve the proportion of population below minimum level of dietary energy consumption & halve the proportion of underweight children under 5 years old Goal 2. Achieve universal primary education Achieve universal access to primary education by 215 Goal 3. Promote gender equality and empower women Eliminate gender disparity in primary & secondary education, preferably by 25, & all levels of education not later than 215
3 What are the MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS? Goal 4. Reduce child mortality Reduce by two thirds the mortality rate among children under five Goal 5. Improve maternal health Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio Increase access to reproductive health services to 6% by 21, and 8% by 215 Goal 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria & other diseases Halt & begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 215 Halt and begin to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases by 215 What are the MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS? Goal 7. Ensure environmental sustainability Implement national strategies for sustainable development by 25, to reverse loss of environmental resources by 215 Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation Achieve a significant improvement in the lives of at least 1 million slum dwellers by 22
