6 Implementation of Gender Equality at each stage of the research cycle: 1. Advisory Groups: Equal Balance in composition of groups (50 % target) At least one expert with gender expertise in each group Meetings of these experts with gender expertise in ad hoc formation 2. Work Programme - General Introduction: Gender Balance in Research Teams: applicants are encouraged to ensure a balanced participation of men and women at all levels in R&I teams and in management structures. Topics with explicit Gender dimensions in participant portal quick finder or key word search 5

Excellence - Concept and methodology : Where relevant, describe how sex and /or gender analysis is taken into account in the project s content Sex analysis: refers to biological characteristics Gender analysis: refers to social and cultural factors Sex and Gender often need to be seen as interrelated. Both or either of the two can be relevant in STEMM fields as well as in Social Sciences and Humanities. For guidance on methods of sex / gender analysis and the issues to be taken into account, please refer to: 6

Evaluation: composition of panels: 40 % Quota for underrepresented sex, taking into account the situation in the specific field Experts with background and professional experience in Gender Research expertise can be documented in experts database Gender in R&I content as part of briefing for Evaluators. 8

Evaluation process: flagged topics: evaluators check how sex / gender analysis is taken into account in the projects content non-flagged topics: if gender issues have been developed in proposal, evaluators deal with them like with all other parts Gender balance in research teams comes into play as a ranking factor to prioritise ex aequo proposals looks at personnel named in proposal as responsible for carrying out the research and / or innovation activities. Grant Agreement: best effort obligation - beneficiaries must aim at balanced participation of women and men in research teams and ensure gender balance among the individuals responsible for the (project) work Examples: transparent recruiting, advancement processes, wage classification and grading of jobs, 10

Monitoring: EC: Monitoring of the implementation of gender as a cross-cutting issue at various stages in the funding process Specific Performing Indicators for H2020, from 2016 onwards collected on annual basis: o Inclusion of Gender in the content of research: numbers of projects including gender analysis in the context of research: products, instruments, methods, technologies, prototypes o Workforce statistics by gender (number in FTE and gender of projects' staff), technicians, administrative staff (including legal); 11

16 Gender-relevant flagged topics H2020 Participant Portal Funding Opportunities Search Topics: Quick finder for topics linked to H2020 cross-cutting priorities: GENDER: An in-depth understanding of men and women's needs, behaviours and attitudes contributes to improve the scientific quality and societal relevance of the produced knowledge, technology and/or innovation. It also leads to produce goods and services better suited to potential markets. Applicants are encouraged to develop a gender dimension in their projects whenever relevant. A topic is considered gender relevant when it concerns individuals of groups of persons and/or when its findings may affect individuals or groups. 15

21 Gender equality calls in Science with and for society SWAFS Networking of national representatives and resources centres on gender in R&I Networking of national representatives for EU MS and AC in support of the implementation of the ERA Roadmap National representatives shall be officially appointed by the relevant national authorities (appointment letters) Liaise with the Helsinki group in GE in R&I Expected impact: better coordination of MS efforts, better synergy between national and EUlevel (H2020) SWAFS European community of practice to support institutional change Support implementation of gender equality plans in research organisations with exchange of practice and knowledge and cooperation between gender-in-science infrastructures, centres or departments The proposals shall undertake an assessment of the needs of the less advanced institutions and countries Expected Impact: Increase gender expertise across Europe, increased engagement on institutional change 20

23 Supporting gender equality in R & I national funding programmes in Austria FEMtech programme A programme on human resources in the field of applied research: - Database of female experts, mostly on STEM fields. Most comprehensive database of Austrian female research experts - regular FEMtech networking meetings, including informal exchange - gender sensitive data, studies and publications on Gender Equality, - funding of services e.g. on Gender Equality for SMEs; providing working experience for female students; supporting the integration of gender dimensions in research projects The Programme is funded through the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology. 22

24 Supporting gender equality in R & I national funding programmes in Austria Programme w-fforte - competent women in business and technology contributing to equal opportunities in scientific and technological fields of work -> Laura Bassi Centres of Expertise currently 7 research centres in natural sciences and technology led by female scientists. Long term funding of up to seven years, max. amount of funding approx. 320,000 per year per centre. Fields of research: medicine, life sciences and IT. This impetus programme makes women in top positions visible, but also works towards new research cultures in research close to industry, without structural obstacles to careers for men and women. w-fforte is funded through the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy. 23
