1 Campaign to Bring Hope by Global Partners in Hope
2 - Bringing Hope to West Africa - History of GPiH & work in Mali Global Partners in Hope (GPiH) is a Nebraska-based non-profit organization that has already made a lasting impact in Mali, West Africa. GPiH has developed a turn-key system of funding, developing needed infrastructure and building and running healthcare centers in rural, impoverished villages in West Africa. In collaboration with government and community groups in Mali, funders in the U.S. and medical professionals in both Mali and the United States, over the past eight years, GPiH has built nine medical centers that are alongside clean water wells and are equipped with sustainable energy systems. Over 90,000 people now have access to medical care through the construction of the strategically located centers. In addition to general and family practice care, the health centers provide the following services: Maternity ward for prenatal, obstetrician and postnatal care for mothers and babies Dispensary with medications stored in refrigeration, if needed Pediatric unit Cardiology Global Partner s in Hope s medical team, Dr. Brett MacLean and his wife Sheri, live in Mali with their four children. Brett is a Pediatrician, and Sheri is a Family Nurse Practitioner. The MacLeans help oversee the nine medical centers, which are sustainably staffed and operated by in-country healthcare providers. The MacLeans and the medical staff in the health centers are the only healthcare professionals in an entire region. They are preventing and treating a wide variety of illnesses and conditions that previously would have been left untreated, and potentially fatal. One example is Katherine. The GPiH medical team heard about her condition and was able to ensure that her tumor was removed and that she received chemotherapy. Instead of pre-planning her inevitable funeral, Katherine is now in remission and back to parenting her toddlers.
3 Overview of Togo Togo is a country in West Africa with a population of approximately 7 million. There are several large urban cities in Togo, including the capital, Lomé, which has approximately 1.5 million residents. Outside of Lomé and several other urban areas, 65% of the population live in rural villages. The main industry is agriculture. Coffee, cocoa, cotton, maize, tapioca, corn, beans and rice. Total real GDP is $ billion, PER CAPITA $1, GDP estimates Map of Togo: Center for Excellence location is approximately 50 Kilometers northeast of Lome, near the community of Agbelouve. 4 intense stomach pains most likely caused by drinking water Emmanuel was a four-year-old boy in Mali, West Africa. He had started experiencing intense stomach pains, most likely caused by drinking water from a local lake. His mother didn t have anything to help him other than leaves to put on his stomach to relieve the pain. Fortunately, an employee at one of Global Partners in Hope s health centers was driving by on his way to visit the center and passed the village. He saw Emmanuel s mother on the side of the road, washing her clothes in the lake. Her son was on the ground next to her, doubled over in pain. The medical center employee could immediately tell the child was very sick. He loaded Emmanuel and his mother into his car and raced them to the health center, where the medical staff could treat Emmanuel for his diarrhea and give him fluids for his dehydration. Within three days Emmanuel was better. He was laughing with the medical staff and ready to go back to help his mom finish washing clothes.
5 The Campaign to Bring Hope As Global Partners in Hope is making sustainable changes in healthcare systems in Mali, other countries in West Africa are taking notice. In 2015, GPiH was contacted by the Minister of Justice in Togo, Koffi Esaw, about replicating the Malian system of care in Togo. GPiH is meeting the vital needs of our people, such as providing water wells, heathcare centers and hospitals, contributing to alleviate poverty and better living of the needy in every area in our country. - Koffi Esaw, President of Compassion Togo. GPIH is launching a $3.26 million Capital Campaign for West Africa which would include: Center for Excellence and five outlying health centers in Togo over the next six years A Guest House for visiting medical professionals Seven wells in Togo Solar panels to power the health centers and wells Services in the Center for Excellence will include family health, OB/GYN and birthing center, cardiology and pediatric care. The outlying medical centers will provide basic family practice, OB/GYN and pediatric care. Building Plans Center for Excellence & Guest House (3D model below) 3 images to the right
