BRIDGES Out of POVERTY What causes poverty? Why does it seem so difficult to eliminate? What are some of the steps people can take to escape poverty and live self-sufficient lives? These are the questions answered by Bridges Out of Poverty, a workshop that examines the dynamics that cause poverty both individual and social and allow it to continue. At the foundation of the program is the belief that poverty, middle class, and wealth are the products of either abundance or a lack of resources. Far from dry theory, Bridges teaches participants real-world skills to alleviate poverty by providing them with the tools and strategies they need to remove barriers to their independence. It brings people from all sectors and economic classes together to improve job retention rates, build necessary resources, improve outcomes, and support those who are moving out of poverty. Getting Ahead Graduates The Homeless Coalition has already had graduation ceremonies complete with diplomas and cake for the more than 170 participants who have completed the 14 week program, and gone forward with their newfound skills and stronger economic footing to work towards becoming financially independent.
