Seeds of Stewardship Summer of Service American Conservation Experience and the Arizona Trail Association Location : Coconino National Forest, Flagstaff, Arizona Position Description : The American Conservation Experience (ACE) and the Arizona Trail Association (ATA) are seeking interested individuals for the summer high school conservation field program, Seeds of Stewardship, Summer of Service in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Seeds of Stewardship, Summer of Service (SOS) experience allows high school teens (ages 15-17) the opportunity to learn about different careers in the conservation and resource management and gain work experience in environmental restoration and conservation. This program is challenging, educational, and fun, and offers participants opportunities to expand their horizons while building skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. No previous wilderness experience is required, but a willingness and ability to work in a physically active outdoor program, get along well with others, and maintain a positive attitude are essential for success. As part of the SOS Crew, you will work on a variety of trail projects throughout Coconino National Forest (in the Flagstaff Ranger District) working on team of five crew members and Crew Leader. SOS participants will work in a variety of weather and terrain conditions while completing projects which may include: trail construction and/or maintenance; habitat restoration; general maintenance work; painting/staining; invasive plant removal; wildlife management and stewardship. The SOS crew will assist the US Forest Service with environmental restoration in the Forest s varied landscapes. SOS youth participants will also spend time participating in weekly environmental education and career orientation activities. Schedule: The SOS season will begin June 18, 2018 and run six weeks through July 27, 2018. Corps members will work 35-40 hours a week (Monday- Friday) and receive a daily stipend of $65/day (paid bi-weekly). SOS Corps Members will be responsible for their own transportation to the ACE Flagstaff Office at the start of the workday and then will travel as a team together to the work project site. Corps members must provide their own lunch every day and be prepared every day with durable work-wear (sturdy hiking boots and long pants) and wear the SOS work shirt each day. **This program is open to local youth applicants in the Flagstaff Area** 1
