The Rider is the creative visionary who can imagine alternative paths of choice and is proficient at crafting mental movies of many possible futures. b. The Rider is a master storyteller. The Rider loves to make up and tell stories, even if many of the stories are a complete confabulation. c. The Rider can influence (but not control) the Elephant with the imagination by creating (visualizing) vivid, precise, emotionally charged pictures and images. The 5 major fears: rejection, failure, success, commitment and change. C. Illusory Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real - Fear is like wearing a pair of spectacles with deformed lenses. Illusory Fear CAN make us very STUPID. D. BREAKTHROUGH QUESTIONS: What s the payoff for having fear? What and whom do you get to avoid? What comfortable behavior do you get to hang on to? What would you do and how would you act IF you had no fear? E. THE CHALLENGE OF CHANGE The Key to all Growth and often requires a shift in attitude, behavior or actions. 1. Change happens TWICE and is prompted by external forces - or - internal desire. The NEW NORMAL is achieved when the second part of change occurs. 2. Resistance is the natural reaction to change. Mastery of change is going beyond resistance. 3. People will always feel alone, even if everyone is going through the same change. Encourage communication! 4. People will always think first about what they are going to lose. Help them focus on what they will gain by the change. 5. Without supporting others and holding them accountable, people will often return to old behavior. Provide consistent friendly pressure and communication until the change becomes the new normal. V. Visualization is forming a mental image. It is the conscious mental movie making of applied imagination. B. Act AS IF. Write 2 baby steps that you could achieve within 48 hours to move you towards your goal. D. Sign the bottom. Set a reminder to reread your commitment in one month. Reality check! VIII. MENTAL TOOLS FOR MANAGING CHANGE AND CREATING BREAKTHROUGH RESULTS A. Manage your self- talk. When you feel fear - Stop! Observe. Say, Isn t that interesting. B. Reframe your thinking. C. CVS to BVS - Consciously make the future vision of what you see - Better!!! IX. FIVE KEYS TO LIVING AN EXCEPTIONAL LIFE STEP #1: MAKE FRIENDS WITH REALITY: If you can accept reality without denying the way things are, you can turn fear into positive action and control what can be controlled. STEP #2: ADJUST YOUR ATTITUDE: Having a positive attitude affects everyone from your co- workers, team and clients, to your family, friends and social network. Be a life enhancer. STEP #3: CREATE A SOLID SUPPORT SYSTEM: Build your support system by helping others achieve their goals. Reciprocity is part of our DNA. Surround yourself with people who have your best interest in mind and a positive attitude. STEP #4: ASK FOR HELP AND EXPRESS YOUR GRATITUDE: Friends and co- workers need to know you need them. Set aside your ego, ask for help and say Thank You. Gratitude is a powerful force.
