BREAKTHROUGH THINKING, continued from front IV. BREAKTHROUGH THINKING TRAITS FOR SUCCESS Trait #1: BE PASSIONATE A. Passion is based on the power of your vision period. B. The 25- Square Game. Determining your Four Life Priorities. 1. 2. 3. 4. C. Passion is influenced and motivated by your values your most deeply held beliefs. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. BREAKTHROUGH QUESTION: Are my values congruent with my actions. Trait #2: HAVE A CLEAR VISION A. Goal vs. Vision B. The ingredients of a successful vision. 1. A powerful vision is about others. 2. A powerful vision is clear, based in emotion and creates passion. 3. A powerful vision is authentic & is based in values. C. A Lesson of the Mind and the Imagination: The Subconscious Elephant vs. The Conscious Rider. 1. The Elephant s Weaknesses: a. Wants what it wants now - no short- term sacrifices for long- term payoff. b. Fearful of change, wants what it wants now, likes the status quo, has a default setting of survival fight or flight. 2. The Elephant s Strengths: a. Center of our emotions, storehouse of our memories and the power and energy. b. Cannot tell the difference between a real experience or one which is imagined by the Rider. 3. The Rider s Weaknesses: a. Is at the whim of the Elephant and can serve only as kind of advisor. b. Has a natural tendency to see mostly the negative, over- analyze and easily gets overwhelmed by too much change. 4. The Rider s Strengths: a. The Rider is the creative visionary who can imagine alternative paths of choice and is proficient at crafting mental movies of many possible futures. b. The Rider is a master storyteller. The Rider loves to make up and tell stories, even if many of the stories are a complete confabulation. c. The Rider can influence (but not control) the Elephant with the imagination by creating (visualizing) vivid, precise, emotionally charged pictures and images. Trait #3: FEEL THE FEAR AND TAKE ACTION BREAKTHROUGH THINKING, continued on insert 1

BREAKTHROUGH THINKING, continued from page 1. Trait #3: FEEL THE FEAR AND TAKE ACTION A. Delicious Fear, Survival Fear & Illusory Fear ( The Great Trickster.) B. The 5 major fears: rejection, failure, success, commitment and change. C. Illusory Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real - Fear is like wearing a pair of spectacles with deformed lenses. Illusory Fear CAN make us very STUPID. D. BREAKTHROUGH QUESTIONS: What s the payoff for having fear? What and whom do you get to avoid? What comfortable behavior do you get to hang on to? What would you do and how would you act IF you had no fear? E. THE CHALLENGE OF CHANGE The Key to all Growth and often requires a shift in attitude, behavior or actions. 1. Change happens TWICE and is prompted by external forces - or - internal desire. The NEW NORMAL is achieved when the second part of change occurs. 2. Resistance is the natural reaction to change. Mastery of change is going beyond resistance. 3. People will always feel alone, even if everyone is going through the same change. Encourage communication! 4. People will always think first about what they are going to lose. Help them focus on what they will gain by the change. 5. Without supporting others and holding them accountable, people will often return to old behavior. Provide consistent friendly pressure and communication until the change becomes the new normal. V. THE PENDULUM THOUGHTS MADE VISIBLE A. You will always move in the direction that you focus. B. How you think impacts you on a deeply physiological level. VI. VISUALIZATION A. Visualization is forming a mental image. It is the conscious mental movie making of applied imagination. B. Act AS IF. Reaching a goal successfully means you have to experience your goal as already successful, using all your senses - seeing, feeling, touching, to make your goals - VIVID, BRIGHT, REAL & EMOTIONALLY CHARGED. Live in the Result. VII. THE COMMITMENT PAGE A. Write a paragraph which answers the Magic Wand question and describes your mental movie of success. B. Base it in a strong emotion. C. Write 2 baby steps that you could achieve within 48 hours to move you towards your goal. D. Sign the bottom. Set a reminder to reread your commitment in one month. Reality check! VIII. MENTAL TOOLS FOR MANAGING CHANGE AND CREATING BREAKTHROUGH RESULTS A. Manage your self- talk. When you feel fear - Stop! Observe. Say, Isn t that interesting. B. Reframe your thinking. C. CVS to BVS - Consciously make the future vision of what you see - Better!!! IX. FIVE KEYS TO LIVING AN EXCEPTIONAL LIFE STEP #1: MAKE FRIENDS WITH REALITY: If you can accept reality without denying the way things are, you can turn fear into positive action and control what can be controlled. STEP #2: ADJUST YOUR ATTITUDE: Having a positive attitude affects everyone from your co- workers, team and clients, to your family, friends and social network. Be a life enhancer. STEP #3: CREATE A SOLID SUPPORT SYSTEM: Build your support system by helping others achieve their goals. Reciprocity is part of our DNA. Surround yourself with people who have your best interest in mind and a positive attitude. STEP #4: ASK FOR HELP AND EXPRESS YOUR GRATITUDE: Friends and co- workers need to know you need them. Set aside your ego, ask for help and say Thank You. Gratitude is a powerful force. STEP #5: CREATE A VISION THAT WILL CARRY YOU THROUGH THE CRISIS: Unleash the power of imagery to quiet stress and fear and create positive expectation (hope) for the future. Visualization is a very helpful tool that will serve you, your team and your family for life. Vision and clear communication of that vision is the mark of a true leader. 2

THE QUANTUM LEAP THINKING PENDULUM Copyright MMXII by.james J. Mapes B A START WITH THIS QUESTION: If you could wave a Magic Wand that changed one thing within six months which would have a positive impact on your life - personally and/or professionally - What would you change? - Facts of the Wand: The magic wand eliminates all fear. It will automatically guide your actions and all your communication. All you have to do is take action, let go and trust. So, what would you do if you had no fear of failure, rejection, change, success or the unknown? - Rules of the Magic Wand: You can t harm anyone else or make a person disappear. Nor, can you take something away from another individual or change what can t be changed. 3
