SHARE it! Autumn 2017 The SHARE Sub-Committee Newsletter SHARE article writers can send their Experience, Strength and Hope in writing to: The Editor SHARE General Service Office PO Box 1 10 Toft GreenYork YO1 7NJ Or Email your article to AAShare@gsogb.org.uk 1

The aim of this newsletter SHARE It! is To update you on the work of the Editorial Team. To provide you with key information quickly and simply. To encourage you, one of our SHARE Reps, to Pass it on and promote SHARE magazine. Many REGIONS and INTERGROUPS have posts vacant for a SHARE LIASON OFFICER which need to be filled. Their Key jobs are: To encourage and gather submissions of articles and letters for inclusion. To communicate at all levels of the Fellowship services. To increase circulation. There are different ways of becoming a SHARE Rep: If you have at least one year s sobriety then why not become a SHARE Rep for your HOME GROUP? Your group may already be receiving copies of SHARE each month and have its own Rep. Perhaps you might like to ask that person if they would consider passing that service on to someone else. AA does believe in rotation of officers. Encourage your home group to take out a monthly subscription for 3 copies or more. These can be sold on the meeting night, or given to new comers as background reading. Most AA groups take a moment at the start of the meeting for Any AA Business. If you become the 2

SHARE Rep perhaps once a month you could take this opportunity to announce the arrival of the latest SHARE edition and give a brief summary of the themes for the month. SHARE always does a feature on a Step and a Tradition each month. Newcomers (and not so new-comers) and Sponsors working through the Steps may be very interested if SHARE has an article that month on a Step that they are working on. Encourage those who Sponsor others to get their Sponsees to have a go at writing for SHARE. It s good Service! Each month SHARE features articles on the 12 Steps and the 12 Traditions of AA. The Step or Tradition featured is based on the number of the month. eg. May = Step Five and Tradition Five. If you are a Sponsor, then members written Experience, Strength and Hope may be helpful for your Sponsee to read. As you grow in confidence go along to your local Intergroup meeting and pass on your knowledge of SHARE to others. Meet the Intergroup SHARE Liason person and get some new ideas or even perhaps give them some of yours! 3

Help out at conventions by manning the SHARE stand which can be requested form the General Service Office in York (01904 644026). Why Buy SHARE? It s your meeting between meetings Some of us are able to attend several meetings a week to help keep our sobriety safe. Others are not so lucky! Some members work long hours, some may be ill and house-bound or be in hospital. Now sober, some members have demanding family commitments. Many of our readers are in prison. We receive a lot of articles from them and they express how much they value the arrival of each month s copy of SHARE. The sharing of Experience, Strength and Hope in person is a problem for anyone, if you can t get to a meeting. Even if you get to meetings regularly, SHARE is a valuable recovery tool. It is also effective in Public Information work. This is where SHARE comes in: SHARE is packed full of articles written by alcoholics with a wide range of recovery experiences. Just as in a meeting, you hear of someone s experience - with SHARE you read that experience. Magazine or CD: it costs just 12 per Year. That's 3.28 pence per day, including delivery to your doorstep! 4

SHARE is our story Share yours! SHARE your strength and experience of recovery! All articles published in SHARE are written by alcoholics for alcoholics. Whether you are new to the Fellowship, an old timer or been around a few days, put your experience on to paper and send it to SHARE, so that others may benefit from your experience in recovery. AAShare@ gsogb.org.uk You don t need to be a polished author. Spelling and grammar are amended - if necessary. You can write just a few lines or more, up to about 1,000 words max. Please note that we cannot print poetry or obituaries. All forms of media submission are welcome: Word files, emails, hand-written pen to paper or audio files. Articles on THE TRADITIONS and CONCEPTS are highly prized by the Editorial team. Send your articles at least two months before the relevant topic is due to appear, for example for Step Three, Tradition Three or Concept Three (March) by mid-january, and so on. 5

And if you don t like reading you can buy SHARE as an Audio CD!! Listen in the car or on your ipod as you walk along. CDs are available by subscription the same way that you order SHARE. SHARE Information is on our AA Website Go to www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk and click on MEMBERS Find a meeting. Have a look at SHARE or listen before you buy! Learn more about the SHARE Editorial Team. Every month SHARE puts on articles, both in print and in audio from the latest issue onto the website. The SHARE Editorial Team can meet up to 4 times a year: twice at GSO (York) at 6 monthly intervals and, if needed, also by telephone conference call. 6

Your representatives on the SHARE Editorial Team are: Helen S GSB Trustee & Chair Euan C Editor Vacant Assistant Editor Janice R Fellowship Calendar and Diary Editor Heather G Reader Ian M Reader Carole P Reader Stuart J Reader Recovery in Prisons SHARE has been finding its way into prisons, with the assistance of AA prison liaison. Many of these subscriptions are funded by local Intergroups or groups. Does your Intergroup or local group Sponsor a copy of SHARE into a prison in your area? Perhaps you are the person to ask this question!!! You can speak to your Prison Liaison Officer at Intergroup or if there is a meeting being held in the prison speak to the group secretary who organises these meetings. If you need help to get a regular copy of SHARE into prison then please speak to The GSO staff, who are EXCELLENT at responding and helping so don t be worried think about it and give it a go! 7

FAO: CONVENTION ORGANISERS Most Intergroup areas arrange an annual local convention. Perhaps you might be able to organise a SHARE stand at the convention and rustle up a team of fellow AA s to give out information. It s a great way to make new AA friends! 2 SHARE stands are available from GSO just ring 01904 644026 to book. ASK for a SHARE Subscription Pack when booking. You can sell SHARE and take subscriptions on the day. HURRAH!!! The 2018 Fellowship Calendars and Diaries are on sale from September 2017, price 4.95 each including postage. Great for Sponsees, Christmas Presents or to send into Prisons! Photos for SHARE and the Fellowship Calendar We need 13 photographs annually for the calendar you are in with an excellent chance of getting into print. Check the AA GB SHARE Documents Library for the Criteria for photography. Your photographs need to be with GSO before the mid- June each year if you want them to be considered. 8

If your photograph does not make the Calendar you may find it being used on the cover of SHARE magazine in a future edition instead. We need two photos for each issue of SHARE magazine, one front cover; one back. You can send them to GSO at any time. Email to AASHARE@gsogb.org.uk a.s.a.p! Hot Tip! Some SHARE Reps have put some writing paper in an envelope and written SHARE s address at our General Service Office, York on the front. They then hand these out at Groups, Intergroups and Conventions simply asking members to write an article for SHARE, stick a stamp on and post it. Keep it Simple, it works! The Editorial Team puts SHARE together each month, but the Fellowship relies on our SHARE Liaison Officers to encourage articles, letters and subscriptions. This is just a flavour of what happens with SHARE... SHARE is our story Share yours! 9
