2017-2018 Fraternity & Sorority Life Awards Application Packet Fraternities and sororities provide students with the opportunity to become part of a collective group of men and women that share mutual ideals and values. These nationally recognized fraternal organizations promote and foster an environment of servant leadership, scholastic achievement, civic engagement, diversity and inclusion. As recognized fraternal and registered student organizations of Columbus State University, groups are eligible to apply and receive any of the following awards for accomplishments in the 2017 2018 academic year. Enclosed in this packet are the applications for any awards for which, there is a separate application. All other awards will be determined based on the information gathered by the Fraternity and Sorority Life Programs. Page 2 Fraternity Man of the Year Sorority Women of the Year This award is presented to a fraternity man and a sorority woman in the CSU Greek Community that exhibits leadership, both in Greek Life and in other areas at CSU. Completed application must include the following: 1. A nomination letter (s) from the nominating chapter 2. A copy of the nominee resume 3. Answers to the following questions to be completed by the nominee: a. Identify the qualities of an excellent fraternity/sorority leader. b. What impact has your fraternity/sorority had on you as a leader? The Fraternity and Sorority Awards Selection Committee will screen candidate applications and finalists will be interviewed Thursday, April 19.
Page 3 Fraternity New Member of the Year Sorority New Member of the Year This award is presented to a fraternity man and a sorority woman in the CSU Greek Community that exhibit stellar leadership, both in Greek Life, and in other areas at CSU. This member must have been initiated into their organization in either the spring 2017 or fall 2017 1. A nomination letter (s) from the nominating chapter 2. A copy of the nominee resume 3. Answers to the following questions to be completed by the nominee: a. Why is Fraternity and Sorority Life relevant today? b. What impact has your fraternity/sorority had in your experience as a new member? The Fraternity and Sorority Awards Selection Committee will screen candidate applications and finalists will be interviewed Thursday, April 19.
Page 4 Living Your Values Award This award is presented to a fraternity man and a sorority woman who exemplify fraternal values through their everyday actions. Chapters should nominate members who truly embody the founding values of the fraternity/sorority and live those values in their everyday life. 1. A nomination letter (s) from the nominating chapter. The letter must include the following: a. The foundational values of the fraternity/sorority b. Three to five examples of how this member exemplifies organizational values 2. A copy of the nominee resume
Page 5 Outstanding Fraternity/Sorority Chapter President This award is presented to a fraternity man and a sorority woman who have given their time, energy, and commitment to improving their fraternity or sorority and the Columbus State University fraternity and sorority community. The nominee must have served as Chapter President from January December 2017 or April 2017 April 2018 1. A nomination letter (s) from the nominating chapter. 2. A copy of the nominees Resume 3. Answers to the following questions to be completed by the nominee: a. What was the greatest achievement of your fraternity/sorority this year? b. What was the most innovative accomplishment for which you were responsible? c. What impact has your fraternity/sorority leadership had on your personal development? d. What is your plan to role model life-long membership following your graduating from Columbus State University
Page 6 Outstanding Chapter Advisor This award is presented to men and women who serve in an advisory capacity to a fraternity or sorority at Columbus State University. One award will be given to a Chapter Advisor and one award will be given to a Faculty Advisor on an annual basis. 1. A nomination letter (s) from the nominating chapter. The letter should include the following: a. Please describe in detail why your advisor should be recognized as Chapter/Faculty Advisor of the Year within the Columbus State University fraternity and sorority community. b. What qualities does your advisor possess that makes him/her an outstanding advisor? c. Please give an example of a time your advisor was called upon to serve the chapter and went beyond expectations.
