President s Message Page 2 Hello, 2018 2019 Officers President Rita F. Corey President Elect Sylvia Mendez-Smith Vice President Carol Fochler Treasurer Diane de la Fuente Secretary Carmen Drury Past President/ Parliamentarian Kimberly L. Glodich Directors 2017-2019 Susan Celaya Susan Even Directors for 2018-2010 Jackie Fremming Gloria Sams The lazy, hazy days of summer are slowly coming to an end. There are many activities being done behind the scenes. Beth Blair, our next Governor, is busy getting her Officers identified, along with her Committee members. It must be a daunting task. It is also a task that any one of us can be engaged in, if we desire. If you wish to advance to the District level just let Sylvia Zamora know. She can advise you on expanding your horizons. Here at home the various committees are busy getting ready for school or other projects. Speaking of projects, we are close to Painting with a Twist. We need a lot of participants, so please invite your family, friends and neighbors. We really need to share our fun with other people. Personally, I am hoping to paint a picture that I can hang on a wall instead of putting it in the back of a closet. Carol Fochler would enjoy hearing from you regarding our Family Fun Day. Do you have a talent of making items to sell? Are there special activities you want to attach to, like the Silent Auction, or Ticket Booth, or others not mentioned? My mind went on vacation so I am a little late with getting this to Gerleine. So if the Newsletter is late, it is my mind s fault Your President, Rita

As all of you know, our projects are varied and one of the newer ones is Soldiers Angels, and it was our treat to have Jennifer M. Cernoch speak at our July meeting. We were also happy to have our Vocational Scholarship recipient and her husband present. We are also active with the Days for Girls project and some of our members were working with a group in the Fair Oaks area. It is a great project and even greater to spend time with this lovely group. Below are pictures of Rita C. and Jennifer, Jennifer, Rita C. and Carmen D. with the Scholarship recipient and her husband. Then there are pictures of the members present at July s meeting, Rita C. and Gerleine S. with Dee Ann in Days of Girls working area, holding the quilt that shows where the kits are sent, and last but not least is Sylvia Z. working.

Events continued Page 5 Membership Committee This committee meets to plan events and activities for our club. If you are a member of this committee, be sure to check with Sylvia Zamora if you have any questions. She will have dates and times of meetings. This is a very vital committee for our club. Reminder- if you plan to bring a prospective member to a club event, please notify Sylvia Zamora, Membership Committee chair, with your guest s contact information. Next Membership meeting will be a phone conference. Finance Important change: Please make note on your calendar. Family Fun Day (FFD) October 28, 2018 The Finance Committee is reaching out to all members for ways all members can help. This will be the biggest fundraiser for the Foundation that our projects are funded through, and of course our Scholarship program is at the top of that list. There are 4 Scholarships to fund so we need all members giving their best. The club booth at the FFD will be our first club fundraiser for this year. We will be selling crafts made by our members. We will be asking our membership to make 5-10-25 items of their choosing to donate for sale at the club booth. We will also decorate glass blocks as a club to sell at the booth. We will be making these blocks on 5 th Thursday of August at Grady s. from 6 pm to 8 pm, come early if you want to eat first. Next Finance meeting on August 20, 5:30 7:30, Carol F. office. Come help us make it all possible.

Events continued page Page 67 School Days, Good Old School Days. Before this month is over, the children and teachers will be back in the class rooms starting their new school year. This means that our service programs for this coming year will be in full swing. If you are signed with either the Bob Hope Elementary programs, Dual Language (Susan Even) or Red Rover (Sylvia Garcia) program, be sure to contact the coordinator. ASTRA (Rose Strawn) will also be very active. All coordinators will be happy to hear from any interested members. Remember to invite family and friends, or that really nice person you just met, to visit with us and learn what Altrusa is all about. We welcome females and males to make us a strong club. Thoughts and Prayers Please keep all of our members and their families in your thoughts and prayers, because often times some of our members keep these hard times to themselves. We hope everyone will let us know when we can help, either in deeds or prayers. This is true for our local members as well as all Altrusa members around the world.
