Ele s Race 5K Run/Walk Ele s Race is an annual 5K Run/Walk that directly benefits Ele s Place, a healing center for grieving children. It s a fun-filled family event that helps to raise funds, as well as awareness, for Ele s Place. This year s race will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 8:00 am at Jackson National Life Insurance Company Headquarters, 1 Corporate Way (On Okemos Road, South of I-96 exit 110). Register online at www.elesplace.org About Ele s Race: A flat, fast, certified 5K (3.1 mile) course starting and finishing at Jackson National Life Insurance Company; approximately one mile of the course takes place on Sandhill Road in rural Okemos. Children s Fun Runs visit our website event page for details. o Playmakers Kids Mile Series event - includes a 1-mile run/walk. Free for children 12 & under. o Kid s Dash 100 yard dash for children. Every participant receives an award. About Ele s Place: Ele s Place is a healing center for grieving children and teens, established in 1991 and named in honor of Ele Stover, who died in 1989 at the age of 11 months. Ele s Place serves approximately 250 children each week, plus nearly 200 children in area schools through Ele s Group school-based program. Teams Make a Big Difference!! Create or join a team! Being part of a team is an opportunity for you to have fun while making a difference in the lives of grieving children. It s also a chance to promote your organization or family s participation within the community in support of Ele s Place. Form a team of family members, co-workers, or friends from your neighborhood, church, club, school or sports team to walk, run, or volunteer together. There is no limit to how many members a team can have. (An Ele s Race team can also consist of members who do not plan to participate in the run/walk, but simply want to help raise funds for the team). Every team member who plans to run or walk in the 5K must register for the race at www.elesplace.org. There is also an Entry Form included in this packet, which you can copy as many times as needed for your team. To create an online team in our RunSignUp system, first the team captain must register for the race. During the registration process, there will be an opportunity to CREATE or JOIN a team. Visit our website for complete step-by-step instructions. Teams are encouraged to create a team name and wear something to identify their team. Get creative! Create t-shirts, hats, or a banner or sign to carry during the race with your team name. Team members and individuals can earn prizes by raising donations. 1. Can/Bottle Drive FUNDRAISING IDEAS Send out flyers asking your neighbors to save cans for your cause or put a returnable box near your desk at work 2. Put all of your loose change in a jar and then roll the coins and use the money toward your fundraising goal 3. Dress down/jeans day at work Charge $2-5 for the opportunity to wear jeans to work on a given day 4. Candy bar sales at work 5. Homemade cookie/treat/ice cream sales at work 6. Hold a garage sale with friends and donate the money to your Ele s Race team 7. Ask a restaurant if they would be willing to host a fundraiser for your team Ask if a certain percentage of the day s income could go to your team Some restaurants will allow for you to stand outside the restaurant and hand out flyers to people coming in 8. Celebrate your birthday Ask friends to make a donation to your fundraising page in lieu of presents 9. Offer your services 10. Throw a party In exchange for donations to your fundraising page, you could: babysit, cut grass, walk dogs, wash cars, run errands, or cook meals! Have guests make a donation to your team. 11. Have a Penny War at work between departments, with the winning group receiving a pasta/pizza party (remember to get the food donated) 12. Ask your local movie theatre if they would donate a big bag of popcorn to your team and sell small bags of movie popcorn at your workplace or as part of a garage sale. 13. Hold a silent or live auction with family and friends Ask a local restaurant if they would donate some space and possibly a microphone Ask guests to donate items to the auction or get items donated from local businesses 14. Solicit your contacts with this sample message: Share your fundraising page with family, friends, colleagues, parishioners, or anyone in your community. This event benefits Ele s Place, a healing center for grieving children and teens. Ele s Place provides peer support groups for children in a safe atmosphere in which healing can take place following the death of a family member or close friend. Funds raised by this team will support the programs that assist 250 grieving children each week at Ele s Place. In addition, more than 200 grieving children will connect with each other in their schools this year through the Ele s Group school based program.
