Welcome! Thank you for participating in the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol in-clinic pilot. We hope and expect that you find this new protocol a powerful new tool in the treatment of companion animal obesity. This guide is intended to get you up and running on the online component of the protocol quickly. Using the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol e-tool The e-tool should be used to: Capture client and patient information Determine each patient s ideal weight using the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol Morphometric Measurements or BFI Risk Chart Create a feeding plan using Hill s weight management portfolio Monitor progress and modify feeding plans 3

Navigating the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol e-tool The site has three main sections. The section can be reached by clicking on the appropriate blue tab at the top of the page Patients Add or change a patient s information. Create a feeding plan Products Maintain your current Hill s products. Change selling prices and mark-ups Resources Training and other materials to help you get the most out of the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol Click the Blue triangle to show all patients for this client Use the Search box to find patients or clients 6

Register your clinic Note: When you first sign-on to the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol e-tool, you need to register yourself to your clinic. This is a one-time process. The first person to register to a clinic automatically becomes the Administrator. Any persons registering to a clinic after the Administrator need to have their request to join the clinic approved by the Administrator. Click on Register Clinic 8

Register your clinic Enter your clinic's name. You may want to search with fewer words or omit any words with special characters to improve your search results 9

Note: The first person to register to a clinic automatically becomes the Administrator. Any persons registering to a clinic after the Administrator need to have their request to join the clinic approved by the Administrator. The Administrator will need to go the Admin page (by clicking on their clinic name in upper right corner) and approve the request. Until approval is granted you will only be able to access the system as a guest Click Done Register your clinic 13

Adding a new client Note: Be sure to capture client s e-mail address as you will be able to e-mail the client customized reports about their pet including the feeding plan, weight loss schedule (if needed) and the BFI Risk Chart. Add client information Click Save or Save & Add Patient Click on Add More Info to add client address, phone, and other information (if needed) 16

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Note: All fields must be completed (including breed) before the system will allow you to continue. Complete pet data Enter birth date (or age) Select breed Click Calculate a Healthy Weight 19

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Measure the pet using the morphometric measurements and enter measurements Click Calculate Note: For uncooperative patients, Click Skip this Step to enter in am estimate of patient s body fat using the BFI Risk Chart 20

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Note: The pet s ideal weight will be shown on the bottom of the page Click on Next Body Fat Index 21

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Click on Calculate Note: The pet s BFI and Ideal Weight will be shown. Also where the pet s risk falls on the BFI Risk Chart. You will be able to share this report with clients either by printing or e-mailing to them. 22

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Note: This weight loss schedule is designed to set weight loss expectations with the client. Here the system displays total weight loss, expected rate of weight loss, and total time needed to reach the weight loss goal. You will be able to share this report with clients either by printing or e-mailing to them. Click on Apply to New Feeding Plan 23

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Note: Weight Loss will default as the condition and only those diets appropriate for that condition will appear in the drop down box. The feeding plan will accommodate Dry, Wet and Treats in any combination. Select a Dry Food from the drop down box Click Add to Plan 24

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Note: If desired, add Treats following the same process. Remember most pet owners like to treat their pets and often these treats aren t accounted for in a weight loss plan. The Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol e-tool will factor the treats in to the overall plan to ensure the pet is getting the right amount of weight loss calories. Click Save Click Add Comments to add additional information to your recommendation. These will print out on the reports. 26

Creating a feeding plan for an overweight patient Note: Checking the box to e-mail the pet owner will automatically e-mail the selected reports to the e-mail address entered with the client s information. Check the desired reports to create, then click View Report as PDF Checking this box will automatically e-mail the selected reports to the client 27

The Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol will factor the wet food and treats into the overall plan to ensure the pet is getting the right amount of calories. Click Save Click Add Comments to add additional information to your recommendation. These will print out on the reports. 32

Completing a weight check From the patient page, open the client by clicking on blue triangle and highlight the patient Click Weight 35

Completing a weight check Note: The system will show you a progress chart showing the patient s weight loss progress. If above the line then patient is not losing weight as expected. If below the line the patient is losing more than expected. Click Review Feeding Plan to make changes (if necessary) 37

Frequently Asked Questions Where do I find more information on the science of the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol? Click on the Resources tab at the top of the screen. There you will find a number of resources including training materials and detailed information on the protocol. Why can t I create a feeding plan? The Healthy Weight Protocol will not allow you to create a feeding plan until the pet s healthy weight has been determined. Highlight the patient name and click on calculate How do I create a feeding plan for an underweight pet? Follow the same process by adding the patient information then click on Calculate a Healthy Weight. The system will take you to the BFI Risk Chart. Enter the estimated BF% of the patient and click Calculate. The system will show you a weight gain schedule and from there take you to the feeding plan page. How do I check a current feeding plan of a patient quickly? From the Patient page, highlight the patient and then click Feeding at the top of the page. You can then modify the current plan or create a new one for this patient. Where can I find more detailed information on the Hill s products? Simply click on the Products tab. Click on the desired product to open up a PDF with detailed product information. Note you can search by species, brand, or form as well as open text. 40

How do I delete a patient or a client? Frequently Asked Questions From the Patient page, highlight the client (or the patient) and click Delete at the top of the page. The system will ask you to confirm. Click Delete to confirm. On the patient information line it shows a red + next to the pet s ideal weight. What does this mean? It means this patient s current weight is above their ideal weight. Similarly if you see a green star that means that this patient is at a healthy weight. How do I use the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol and feed a food other than Hill s? Remember that any effective feeding plan starts with an accurate ideal weight estimate. Simply use the Hill s Healthy Weight Protocol to determine the pet s ideal weight and then follow the feeding guidelines that come with the product you d like to recommend. How do I add my clinic logo? Click on your clinic name in the upper right corner of the screen. How do I provide feedback on this tool? Simply click on the Red tab marked Feedback.
