When I think about what inspires me, I always come back to one answer: my family. My wife and kids mean everything to me, and because of them, I strive to be the best version of myself possible. I also want them to feel appreciated and loved, so I try to show that in small ways: like putting down my phone to be fully present when we re together, or making time for family dinners. Our brand promise Know How Much You Matter to This World is built on a feeling. At UnityPoint Health, we believe in the power of relationships, and all of us, no matter our job title or location, understand that the way we make people feel matters more than anything else. The same sentiment is true for us at work as well. We want to be heard. We want to feel like we re part of something meaningful. And we want the opportunity to use our voices for impact. I have two questions for you: Is there a time when you felt like you really mattered at UnityPoint Health? And what inspires you to bring our brand promise to life? I d love to hear your stories. Kevin Vermeer President & CEO - UnityPoint Health 2 P a g e

Lutheran Volunteers: ILH Auxiliary Spring Meeting.. 4 P a g e

On April 3 rd, family, friends, Auxiliarans and leaders of the Foundation gathered at Iowa Lutheran Hospital to celebrate all that the Volunteens (volunteer/teens) do for UnityPoint Health Des Moines and Iowa Lutheran. After social time, Dennis Linderbaum, CEO of the Iowa Health Foundation, welcomed all attendees and thanked the Volunteens for the compassion they show towards patients, visitors, and staff to better the overall experience for our community members. Following, 39 Volunteens were presented with the President s Volunteer Service Awards. The combined effort of these recipients totaled approximately 3000 hours in the 2017 calendar year. The pinnacle of each Volunteen Appreciation is the revealing of Tuition Assistance Scholarships by the Auxiliary s Tuition Assistance Committee. Betty Hyde, Char Kimball, and Rhana Kelderman spend countless hours reviewing applications, interviewing each Volunteen that applied, and selecting those that have earned such a generous financial gift. Each Volunteen received $1000 from the ILH Auxiliary, and a matching $1000 donation from Bill and Char Kimball. With the cost of higher education continuing to increase, these funds will contribute to each individual s lofty goals for the future. A special thank you to everyone that was able to enjoy the evening along with the Volunteens. Your support is paramount to the success of our future health care professionals! 5 P a g e

Love to keep moving? Want to get your steps in? Have the desire to work directly with patients and families? Be a part of our highly regarded team of volunteers who escort, greet and welcome visitors and patients to UPH Des Moines- Iowa Lutheran Hospital! Our Volunteer Escorts are stationed at the Information Desk and they play a central role in providing a warm and welcoming environment for each of our visitors. Volunteer Escorts assist patients to their appointments throughout the entire hospital. The Volunteer Escort role provides our volunteers with a great opportunity to work directly with patients while also experiencing the hospital environment! In these roles, volunteers become familiar with the wide range of services provided at UPH- ILH while experiencing a high level of patient contact. For more information about becoming a volunteer escort at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, contact ILH Volunteer Services at 1(515)263-5227. The Not New Shop is also looking for volunteers! It s a busy time of year! Let us know if you are interested: (515)263-5227 6 P a g e

UnityPoint Health Annual Volunteer Education is Back! It is that time of year again! It s time to review important issues for all of us, including volunteers. We are doing our Annual Volunteer Education Survey, via Survey Monkey. We listened to your feedback and have provided the correct answers at the end of the survey. Please know that if you miss answers it is absolutely okay. We are not tracking scores. We just want to ensure you have the basic information to keep you safe and in the know as your perform your volunteer role. And, we want to provide you with the best education possible we are here to support you! You should have already received the survey link, if not, you will via email within the next week! As always, we appreciate all you do for us and our patients and families including doing these extra tasks! If you have any questions, please let us know. We are always happy to help. - Your Volunteer Services Team Don t forget!!! If you have not yet turned in your parking information (make, model, year, color of car) to your respected volunteer campus (ILH, IMMC, MWH), please do so ASAP! We issued new parking permits recently so we can better track volunteer vehicles. If any volunteer has to take a leave of absence for a period of time due to illness, surgery, etc. resulting in doctor s orders to stay home, take time off, stay off your feet, not lift anything.etc., we do want to be sure and collect a Doctor s Work Release form stating it is ok to return to volunteering. We just want to be sure everyone is safe and sound, and healthy! 7 P a g e
