Mildred Elsn Award Mildred Elsn was the funding President f WCPT and a driving frce in establishing the Cnfederatin. She believed strngly in the benefits f physical therapists wrking tgether natinally and glbally. At the secnd General Meeting she said that the future depended n every single physical therapist wrking with their patients, prfessinal assciatins, prfessinal clleagues and private individuals twards a cmmn gal the recvery f the patient, physically, scially and ecnmically. The Mildred Elsn Award is the highest hnur that WCPT can bestw. It is fr utstanding leadership cntributing significantly t the develpment f physical therapy internatinally. Only ne Mildred Elsn Award is given at the time f each WCPT General Meeting. Histry The Mildred Elsn Award was established in 1987 with funds dnated by the American Physical Therapy Assciatin. Mildred Elsn was the first President f WCPT and the first recipient f the award in 1987. Criteria Criteria used by the Awards Cmmittee t review the applicatins will include the fllwing: breadth f impact - cntributin t the enhancement f prfessinal develpment within and external t the physical therapy cmmunity previus recgnitin f cntributins, leadership and high quality achievements that demnstrate riginality as demnstrated by ther awards and hnurs dcumented in the nminee's curriculum vitae prfessinal (beynd physical therapy) public visibility f cntributins, as demnstrated by publicatins, presentatins, invited lectures, appinted and elected psitins held, and ther infrmatin in the nminee's curriculum vitae evidence f enduring quality f cntributins, r ptential fr cntinuing effects f cntributins t the prfessin cntributin t the advancement f the prfessin as a whle thrugh innvatin - the develpment f a new cntributin r advancing the knwledge base f the prfessin and/r furthering the aims f the rganisatin and/r the prfessin. Nminatins must be submitted by WCPT member rganisatins. Nminees must be members f a WCPT member rganisatin and they cannt be a member f the current WCPT Executive Cmmittee. The applicatin frm must be cmpleted and submitted with the infrmatin listed n the frm and a minimum f 3 and a maximum f 5 statements/letters f supprt that may fcus n a specific aspect f the nminee s career and cntributin, r cver all aspects. The letters are t be c-rdinated by a principle nminatr and must reflect the criteria listed abve which will be used t evaluate the nminatins. In the event a nminatin is unsuccessful, the Awards Cmmittee may cntact the member rganisatin t determine if they wish the individual t be cnsidered fr anther award. Page 3 f 7
Internatinal Service Award Awards fr internatinal service are t hnur individuals wh have made a significant cntributin t physical therapy internatinally r within their regin. Mre than ne award may be given at the time f each WCPT General Meeting and Cngress. Nminatins are accepted frm member rganisatins, regins and subgrups. All nminatins shuld indicate the area in which the majrity f the nminee s wrk has taken place. Nminees must be members f a WCPT member rganisatin. The nminees will have demnstrated leadership, made distinguished cntributins and/r had a high impact n the prfessin at an internatinal r reginal level thrugh service in ne r mre f the fllwing areas: practice educatin research management/administratin advcacy Criteria Criteria used t judge the nminatins will include evidence f the fllwing: sustained cntributin f service t imprtant prfessinal issues in ne r mre f the areas utlined abve reginal and/r internatinal impact f services and cntributins such as reginal/internatinal cnsultative r cllabrative wrk; advancement f subgrup develpment and grwth; leading/initiating multisite research and educatinal prgrammes prfessinal and/r public visibility f cntributins, as demnstrated by clinical services, publicatins, presentatins, invited lectures, appinted and elected psitins held, and ther infrmatin in the nminee's curriculum vitae services resulting in the advancement f the prfessin in ne r mre f the areas listed abve. Humanitarian Service Award This award is t recgnise individual physical therapists wh have imprved peple s lives thrugh their exceptinal care, cmpassin, dedicatin and persnal cmmitment. Previus recipients f this award, Albert Cair in 2007 and Ann Schmidt in 2011, epitmised this extrardinary level f dedicatin. Nminatins are accepted frm member rganisatins, regins and subgrups. Any physical therapist wh has shwn persnal cmmitment and dedicatin and is held in high esteem by peers. Nrmally, the physical therapist will be a member f a member rganisatin but recgnising that this may nt always be apprpriate fr this award, it is nt a requirement fr the award. Nminees fr this award may have carried ut their wrk at a natinal r internatinal level and their wrk may take place in ne f a variety f sectrs fr example nngvernmental r humanitarian rganisatins. Nminees may have made their cntributin as an emplyee r vlunteer. Leadership in Rehabilitatin Award This award is t recgnise an individual r grup/rganisatin that has made an exceptinal cntributin t internatinal rehabilitatin and/r glbal health. The individual r grup nminated may have made a significant cntributin in areas such as: leading rehabilitatin prgrammes in eg disaster areas, war-affected znes, areas f humanitarian need ensuring that ppulatins have adequate access t rehabilitatin services thrugh direct service delivery r advcacy and awareness raising initiatives initiating new rehabilitatin educatin and/r research prgrammes. Only ne Leadership in Rehabilitatin Award may be given at the time f each WCPT General Meeting/Cngress. Nminatins may be submitted by member rganisatins, regins, subgrups and a member f the WCPT Executive Cmmittee Any individual frm any cuntry is eligible fr the award. Any grup/rganisatin is eligible fr the award. While it is expected that individual physical therapists will be nminated in ther categries f awards, if a grup r rganisatin is nminated, physical therapists are nt precluded frm being part f the grup. The wrk recgnised may have ccurred in ne r mre cuntries r areas f the wrld. Criteria Criteria used t judge the award will include evidence f the fllwing but nt all criteria listed belw need t be met fr nminatins t be cnsidered fr this award: the individual, grup r rganisatin filled an unmet need f thse withut resurces r avenues t receive necessary rehabilitatin either fr the shrt r lng term the individual, grup r rganisatin prvided access t rehabilitative health, educatin r research prgrammes and infrmatin the individual, grup r rganisatin advcated fr and/r raised awareness f a need which resulted in actins that respnded t that need being addressed the services r prgrammes were recgnised by the recipients and their cmmunity leaders as being beneficial t a significant number in need the service r prgrammes initiated shw evidence f sustainability if relevant.
