Strategy to address homelessness of women and children by: Provide safe, secure medium term accommodation Provide case management and ongoing counselling Provide employment mentoring and job locating Provide platform from which to re-establish independent living 42% of the homeless population in WA are women resulting from domestic violence, lack of financial resources for various reasons or health issues, a large proportion being older women. UWA estimate just under 500 women sleep rough in WA. Those suffering home abuse sometimes the only course of action is get into their car, take children if any, sleep in the car until assisted by government or not for profit service providers which may take days or in some cases weeks. Police report some 400 cases weekly of domestic violence or assaults by a partner or family member in our State. Participating in social enterprise activities provides income, vocational training and employment opportunities 5

St Benedict s aim to plug existing gaps Working with homeless people and seeking their input, holding discussions with homeless advocates and specialty service providers, it became apparent gaps existed within services provided. Based on this coal face input the Foundation will operate three programs: Homestart - Immediate, safe, secure accommodation with community meeting centre and clinic. Helpstart - Workstart - Central hub for case management, ongoing counselling and service providers to directly interact with those without a home. Employment mentoring, training and job locating service with ongoing support. Homestart Helpstart Workstart 6
