Understand where a gang member's hostility comes from and how to redirect this anger toward learning Gang Myths - We all must strive to accurately and honestly identify the gang influence in our community. Many people still hang on to the traditional signs of gang involvement to gauge the youth gang influence in their community. We must be careful to not overlook subtle signs of a youth gang problem in the community. This course is designed to address the known and assumed information about street gangs. Parents on a Mission - Parents on a Mission is a nationally utilized program by school districts, churches, nonprofits, jails and most recently adopted by the Colorado Department of Corrections as part of their State-wide 2018 Performance Plan. If Only- If Only, a combined effort by Millennium Health and The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation with help from Recovery Centers of America, produced by James Wahlberg. The film was created to increase awareness of youth prescription drug abuse and opioid addiction. If Only is intended to encourage a productive dialogue about an epidemic that is plaguing our society today. Homeboy Goes to Harvard - A once tough-talking Latino gangster, now a college-educated, nationally recognized speaker, Richard Santana s journey provides a powerful and graphic illustration of cultural relevance in schools. His moving accounts of his gang-life experiences and how they shaped his beliefs, attitudes and self-expectations are inspiring, unsettling and thought-provoking. He challenges his audience to critically assess their own perceptions and helps them to recognize how these perceptions influence work relationships, effectiveness and productivity. His message is one of making choices: between hope and hopelessness, between evaluating young people based upon our own standards or accepting them in the context of their own, between giving up on our most challenged youth or truly becoming their advocates.
