IAOH AP Branch organized one Day Seminar / CME on 10.07.2016 in association with Care Hospitals at Care Hospital, Nampally, Hyderabad on the eve of Occupational Health Day Celebrations. The Theme of the above Seminar / CME is Taking OH to unorganized sector: Challenges and strategies. Seminar was inaugurated by Shri CH.Kishan, Director of Factories, Govt. of Telangana and Dr.D.N.Kumar, Chief Cardiologist and Medical Director, Care Hospital, Nampally, Hyderabad. Dr.J.Vijay Rao, President of IAOH AP Branch had presented welcome address to all the Delegates. He had briefed about the geneses of IAOH in 1946 at Steel City of India i.e. Jamshedpur and the contributions made by visionaries, its journey in India. He also explained the various activities being undertaken by IAOH AP Branch. He laid the emphasis on basic priorities for Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), which should include contributing to Primary prevention, Protection against workplace hazards, Work adaptation, Health promotion, Cure and Rehabilitation. OHS have to resort to modern management techniques and innovative marketing approaches (not only to customers but also to Management) for ensuring total commitment. Unless we move out of our offices & reach out to the unorganized sectors, this is unlikely to happen. Dr.Vivek Chandra Rao opined that Basic Occupational Health Services (BOHS) are very much needed and they should include in the basic health services which are provided through PHCs and UHCs to reach the people who are working in unorganized sectors. He also emphasized to collaborate with local IMAs to organize various medical camps for the benefit of needy. The Chief Guest Mr.Ch.Kishan, Director of Factories, Government of Telangana appreciated the efforts put in by IAOH(I) and also AP Branch for rightly selecting the theme to provide basic occupational health services to unorganized sectors. He had suggested IAOH AP Branch to conduct free health camps, free medical checkups and health advises for their better health, where the basic Page 1 of 6

medical facilities are not available. Occupational Diseases are preventable, hence, preventive aspects should be given priority rather giving priority to curative services. He has also requested IAOH AP Branch to help Director of Factories in guiding / framing the guidelines for pre-employment medical check-ups in medium and small scale industries. Dr.D.N.Kumar, Chief Cardiologist & Medical Director, Care Hospitals, had expressed gratitude to IAOH AP Branch for associating with Care Hospital consecutively since four years in organizing CME Programmes on the occasion of IAOH Day celebrations at Care Hospitals. He has mentioned that, taking the inspiration of IAOH, every year, all the employees of Care Hospitals are subjected to free periodic medical check-ups as a preventive measure and all the staff are subjected to free vaccination for various ailments. He stressed the importance of prevention of disease rather than their cure, which will certainly reduce the financial burden and ensure better health of the employees.
